I will be doing my first full length practice exam this weekend, and after that I hope to another 5, doing between 1 and 2 each week. The exams I have are AAMC 5, 6 and 7 and three exams from TPR. I was wondering if this is enough, or if I should do more full length exams. The only problem is that I work full time and can't really fit in any more.

Also, for those who work full time, are you planning on taking any time off the week before the MCAT?

Thanks,
Nat 🙂

I can't!! :scared: I have a day-long presentation to give in Spokane (5 hours from where I live/test) on the 13th!! (The Friday before the test) So the week before the MCAT will be wasted... it will be all about prep for the presentation. Then, on Thursday I fly out to Spokane... on Friday I fly back getting into Seattle at about 7 pm... hurry up and drive home... test the next morning...

I wonder if I should try to study that Friday night? Or if I should just have a nice dinner with a friend or two... try to relax. Be in bed by 9 or 10!

I'm thinking of taking off the last week in July instead... that will give me time to work on studying while I still feel I have time...

What do people think we should be getting on practice MCATs at this point.... I don't feel like I'm at where I need to be....

What's your goal?

I think you should be within about 5 points of your goal by this point, but that's judging by my progress. I've no way of guessing at your maximum potential progress.

I've ranged between an 8 and 11 in bs, 10 or 11 in ps, and around 10 in verbal...

That could be enough practice exams - it depends on your particular situation. I only took 3.5 practices and it was fine.

I'd definitely recommend taking off work the day before if possible. I went home from work at lunchtime, had a nice lunch, went to the movies with a friend, came home and did a little more review (I don't recommend this in general, but for me it made me feel fully prepared though I didn't learn any more), assembled my lunch for the next day, read a foofy magazine and went to bed early. It was great.

I do work full time, but I'm just taking the Friday off before the exam. And I don't plan on studying that day beside looking over some flash cards.

Nothing too strenous.

Then I think you're worrying too much. I get a minimum score of 28 for you right now. Add 2 points and you'll be at the most common goal score. If you work really hard I don't think it's impractical to add 5 points, so I think you're fine (with the work). With no work, I think you'd score around 28 depending on how you handle stress.

I would do anything to improve 5 points from now until the MCAT.

I do think there's a top score that you can expect, some folks hit it earlier than others 😀

I think I peaked about the right time for my MCAT. If I had three more months to study, I think I could have done a touch better, but not much.

If you can manage it - try to do a couple of practice test in as realistic an environment as possible. Start on time, time the sections, do them in order, don't skip the writing sample, and take the breaks. If you can find a place that isn't your house to take the test, all the better.

I did this a few times before the MCAT and I felt very comfortable taking the real test.

even though you scored well you still planning to retake the test? I think you said you would when scores went out.

Me? No! Heck, no. I'm not retaking unless these expire after 3 years.

I got a 27 on the 3R, how much does that score can be (being realistic) rised?? I will take 4R this weekend, after having finished the EK books... wish me luck
