The pre-allo forum is very cluttered. I decided to take a few minutes to summarize it, so that when newbies join they can just take 30 seconds to read this thread and learn everything they need to know about SDN and med school, divided into three categories.

Life is unfair because:
-I'm not disadvantaged
-I am disadvantaged
-People who drive nice cars and live on welfare claim they are disadvantaged
-People cheat with drugs
-People get in on legacy
-I go to a school with no grade inflation
-AMCAS doesn't give credit for A+s
-I have all my limbs, was born to an english speaking family, and grew up with absolutely no access to any african (1st choice) or tibetan (trendy) HIV orphans

Neurotically analyze which tiny factor will prevent me/you from fulfilling my/your dreams
-MCAT is way more important than GPA because of the USMLE
-The VR matters most
-The BS matters most
-Who gives a crap about PS?
-GPA is way more important than MCAT because standardized tests are biased (also see "I am disadvantaged")
-GPA is way more important than MCAT because it shows consistency (see also "People cheat with drugs" and "I go to a school with no grade inflation")
-People with high GPAs have no lives
-People with high MCATs have no lives
-People who make sweeping generalizations have no lives
-Athletes are better than musicians
-Athletes are overblown
-Applying after July 1st means you will get in nowhere
-There are no safeties. No one will get in anywhere
-I totally heard of someone with a 4.2/47/Nobel Prize who only applied to 35 schools and didn't get in anywhere, what are my chances?
-The applicant pool increases every year. The end is nigh.
-LOR from shadowing are useless
-You are unpublished
-Tattling on a fellow applicant who did something shady does/does not make you a whiny little *****
-Your AMCAS will be bumped to the back of the verification line if you so much as breathe in the site's direction
-Your underage drinking makes you human/a horrible person
-That C in gen chem will keep you out of dermatology
-The story of how you got dumped by Kyle Henderson, totally the cutest boy EVER, and how you dealt with that vicious blow makes an awesome adversity essay.

General points of discussion
-Psychiatry is quackery/life saving/an awesome debate topic
-Does my class in cultural history of the maori people count as BCMP? I got an A and really want it to.
-MDApps is all about mutual masturbation and totally unrepresentative of the applicant pool (as opposed to SDN)
-The answer to life is contained within the pages of the MSAR
-US News and World Report is for suckers
-The secondary didn't come to you because you suck. You were picked last for dodgeball too, right?
-All of the people on SDN are super attractive, but dating is medschool is impossible because if you aren't attached by the time you get there you are clearly incapable of connecting with a fellow human being
-Women are ruining medicine/bringing something special to medicine
-Older applicants are wasting resources/bringing much needed maturity to the field
-It is impossible to live on 200k/yr, the low pay in the medical field is a travesty
-Cheap school is better than a high-ranked school, where you go is irrelevant, and if you think it matters you are an arrogant *****hole/naive
-Money should be your last consideration in picking a school
-DOs aren't real doctors
-Don't you know about Dr. X who's a DO? Huh? HUH? They are among you.
-Everyone on SDN who looks forward to med school is naive and somewhat dumb. It'll suck. A lot. Have I mentioned how much it'll suck?
-People who go into the ROAD professions are smarter than everyone else. No, they're the devil. No, they're just smart.
-The formatting for this thread sucks, it's too cluttered/long
-Copy, paste, delete the quotes...is that so hard?
-Silly cat pictures are the solution to any heated thread

Does that cover it?

Mods please sticky and we can all get a lot more done with our days.

😀

you forgot the ubiquitous post of a troll doll picture (complete with pink hair) in response to any question that might be perceived as slightly troll-ish.

but otherwise, quite a nice summary. lol.

hahahahahahahah I think love you, have I told you that lately?

OMG I know Kyle Henderson what a DREAMBOAT!

You forgot:

"Biochemistry is better than Biology. The Humanities are better than Biochemistry. Biology is better than the Humanities."

Nonetheless, well done!

Oh Schwerbs...I've been waiting almost 24 hours to hear you say that!!

LET - of course. 100% pinky swear. Just don't mack on Kyle or it's OVER.

Beach - the troll emoticon is sadly underutilized.

You're also forgetting the "people who are in med school regret this every day of their lives. Medicine is a miserable profession and we're all going to be poor and overworked and die of a heart attack at 35."
and of course
"Cheap school is better than a high-ranked school, where you go is irrelevant, and if you think it matters you are an arrogant *****hole/ naive"
"Everyone on SDN who looks forward to med school is naive and somewhat dumb. It'll suck. A lot. Have I mentioned how much it'll suck?"

Terrible oversight, adding them immediately.

"OMG. LOL. I only took three study abroad trips to Mars and earned 5 bachelors/2 masters in 3 years and graduated summa cum laude. I had to take time off also to compete in Olympics (gold medal LOL) is that bad? I know that most people do at least 5 Mars study abroad trips, will that look bad if I only do 3? I only cured 18 diseases and most people do 25 is that bad? I tried to make up for it with my MCAT but only got a 44 S, the 14 was in verbal, will adcoms think I can't read? I'm freaking out..omgomgogmomogmogmomgom"

I tried to find a picture that went along with this thread but my attention span only let me make it to the third page.

SDN is like a social experiment to show how broken the system of med school admissions is.

Perhaps you are a ritalin candidate. Just keep in mind that using makes you a cheater, but at least you will be on topic. 😎

I've lost all motivation to do secondaries save northwestern's. I've just written so many essays lately I'm starting to go crazy.

As absolutely true as this thread is, I don't think you'll get a sticky. It doesnt exactly promote the professional forum appearence SDN seeks. We all know pre-allo really is a **** show but that's not exactly good publicity heh

I totally heard of someone with a 4.2/47/Nobel Prize who only applied to 35 schools and didn't get in anywhere, what are my chances?

those make me so angry...though in general chances threads on any forum make me angry

awesome thread.

I was joking... 🙂

What bugs me more is the fact that while you're talking about something totally separate from your own gpa/mcat on a thread, someone will feel the need to inform you of what he/she thinks your chances are.

This happened to me before:
"I think you'll be fine, you have great stats!"
"Whatever, you're URM, you'll get in anywhere"
"Wait, what?!"

or even better:
"Has anyone received this secondary?"
"Are you sure you want to apply to this school? According to my calculations, you have a 0.00000001% shot in hell of getting in."
"That's not my question"
"You know, URM status isn't going to carry you that far. Your gpa sucks, and MCAT isn't all that high"
"But...I like this school. I'm just applying. You never know."
"My friend had a 4.0 and a 43 applied last year and he didn't get in."
"O...K...."
"Yeah, so...you shouldn't apply. I'm sorry, I tell it like it is. I'm honest, OK? I don't believe in BS."

GAAAAAH

required pre-med undergarments are red/blue e.t.c, pre-med toothpaste, perfume, breakfast cereal preferences....?

and dont forget the whole summer extravaganza, with things such as

- using cell phone and bath tub to create an effective alarm system for morning wakeup
- summer research vs summer class vs "living a life"
- whats contained in those awfully numbered threads with "20**-20** secondary xXXX school" headings

GAAAAAH

The amount of unbalanced, unsolicited, know-it-all advice spewed around here is mind-boggling. My absolute favorite part about it is that 99% of it is coming from people who are also just applying to med school...pre-experts.

They're called noobs.

tsk, tsk.

Oh, also, to keep in the spirit of the amusing thread, here's a funny website:

Holy sh$#$%^%#$...That's the funniest thing I've seen this month. Good job!!
Look at the Batman one, hahaa. And that one kid was like "suck my" -->"see me" hahaha.

Do you have anymore of these sites?

Unfortunately that's the only one that's nerd-themed.
