Hey all,

So I've been on hold at some schools. Is there a protocol after being placed on hold? Do I need to reply to them saying, thanks for the heads up, I look forward to hearing back later etc etc?

Is it even necessary?

No, there is no protocol, you are not expected to do anything other than wait for them. If you have any significant updates to your application you could send them a letter of update. If it is truly a significant update it may help your application. You could also send them a letter explaining why you are very interested in the school and why you think you would be a good fit, however, these letters generally seem to have little affect.

What, in your view, is considered a 'significant update'?

Giant national research award.

Or you can do smaller updates built into a letter of interest, but if you're JUST updating them it should be a pretty big thing to bother them. And keep in mind not everyone is open to them.
