how is this pre-med?

it's not, i concede
but isn't the point of all
these pre-med haikus

to gen'rally whine
and complain about waitlists
and nuisances such?

....
on a new tangent
how many count their fingers
when drafting haikus?

i count my fingers
1 2 3 4 5.... 6 7
paused 'cause I switched hands.

Sorry, Robizzle.
One too many syllables.
7 deceived you.

New email arrives.
Heart sprints. Sweat drips. Afraid to click.

Hey, sorry Zimmie,
Am I a haiku nazi?
You have 5-8-5.

Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays. I'm stuck at work and can't even excitedly check my email every 2 minutes for med school news because I really doubt anything will be happening with that today. Sigh. :luck:

i'm stuck here at work too.. boo... the roads were so empty today .. i wish i was at home

My first post-Christmas Haiku:

And the day grinds on
slowly tormenting my mind
I long for my home

Beautiful, just beautiful.

It's ok, I think I was the only person in all the USA that didn't go home for Christmas. I'm Jewish, but we still usually get together as a family and well it was kinda lonely being here...

boo hooo....

There are more people
On SDN than you see.
They're invisible. 🙂

Don't knock the farm, jess.
Rural is not exciting:
At least I get out.

Went ice skating today.
Took a road trip to Gainesville;
I miss that city.

Referring to Gainsville as a city just nearly gave me heart palpitations  :meanie: LOL

Sorry...truly am...I'm so lame with my urban ways. Although, I very much respect the ice skating - was that indoor or outdoor?

J

You guys are good poets. Thanks Haemulon for starting this thread. Here's how I feel right now...

These med school apps are
A tough lesson in patience
Wait, then wait some more

Interview invites
send your mood soaring high, then
a rejection...CRASH!

Heart palpitations?
You're stuck in an urban dream.
You should get outdoors.

For the rest of you: haikus are supposed to use one complete thought per line. Don't write a 17 syllable sentence and then chop it up to make the structure correct. Otherwise,

Yoda, you'll sound like.
Please remember this one rule:
One whole thought per line.

This is not really true. Haikus are often structured with a break after the second line, or after the third. (So the first two lines or second and third lines convey one thought.) It is appropriate, although not required, to break a sentance across 2 lines. Many times there is a complete phrase per line, but it doesn't have to be a complete sentance.

It's also not true
That haikus can never rhyme.
Though few of them do. 😎

wall of fame growing,
happy for those on the list.
will this be my year?

I move to new home
3 weeks no forwarded mail
post office sucks dude

No acceptances
No clue what is going on
No rejections too

I ordered gift cards
they are lost in the mail too
no christmas for my sisters

No mail for 3 weeks
is driving me up the wall
I need my mail yo

I hear ya. No mail for me either, except a rejection a couple weeks ago. Been a blue Christmas in that regard.

Waiting for your news.
I have a new sense of dread.
The months drain away.

Yet I am hopeful.
Starry-eyed, optomistic.
Cherry Blossom Pink.

The Autumn winds come.
They gently warm the snow peas.
No word from Davis.

Is there a new Tao?
I should find a distraction.
I will meditate.

Waiting for patience.
How much longer must I wait?
Tap tap tap tap tap.

Oy! That reminds me:
I need to pick a hobby.
Hmm...Gregory Hines?

Bill Cosby: Chall-ange!
A little sandy slip tap
Slip Tapitty Tap!

Gregory Hines: Tap.
Tip Tip Tapitty Tap Tap.
Tip Tip Tap Tip Tap!

Am I all alone?
In this wasteland of TV?
Bueller? Norm? Laverne?

There is no hope now.
At least none is left for me.
Winter shrivels all.

There is no hiding.
Cold winds break across my face.
Beating down my gaze.

My fate is sealed.
As a prepackaged dinner.
No escaping now.

That was the sad part.
Now comes the comical part.
Non sequitors. Huh?

Hope is like butter:
It turns the untenable
into the not bad.

Unfortunately,
The price of oil is now high.
Five dollars a pound?

What will I buy now?
Low-fat butter substitute.
Yum. So good. Really.

Frozen burrito.
Trader Joe's salsa and chips.
Tide me over like a TSUNAMI!

The last line was long.
One too many syllables.
Was a mistake made?

No, young padawan.
Tsunamis cannot be held.
They go where they want.

Like the winter wind:
My GPA blows.
With it - my future?

One Yoda thought left:
The Hokusai Tsunami.
I Wish my App were.

Your haiku was long
but I really enjoyed it
despite its great length

While I love star wars
Jar-Jar dissappointed me
But Yoda is cool

I still sit at work
with a sore back and numb butt
Haikus pass the time

Q resurrected
This old pre-med haiku thread
Let us not waste it

Is this getting old?
Until it does i'll still write
all posts in haiku

😀
