Pre Med Level of Classes

Hey guys, after playing around on this site for a couple of months, I decided to post a question. I am a sophomore in college, and haven't taken any pre-med classes yet. I was wondering what level classes are best for the med school prerequisites? Would entry level classes cut it? Or should I be taking more challenging upper division classes?
I am unsure if there are any threads about this, but I was unable to find any.

I'm going to be concise, because I have to leave soon...So, the general requirements are:

• 1 year general chemistry with labs
• 1 year organic chemistry with labs
• 1 year introductory biology with labs
• 1 year general physics with labs

Some schools require Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, or other upper level classes. A lot of schools also require/recommend some sort of math and English. Also, if available at your undergrad, an ethics class (which can be 1xx, 2xx, 3xx, or 4xx) is a good idea.

The bulleted classes are usually 1xx levels, although I've seen schools list them as 2xx once or twice.

Umm I dont think you can take upper division classes without the basic ones... You want to take Gen Bio I and II (probably 1XXX level classes), Gen Chem I and II (probably 1XXX level classes), English (again 1XXX level), Physics* (probably 1XXX level classes), OChem (probably 2XXX level classes)...
For OChem I know schools have you register for lab separately, you want to make sure you have 1 year lecture AND lab for ochem along with the other sciences mentioned.

Once you get those down, you can take Biochem, Genetics, maybe an upper division chem/ochem/physics class if you like (do not take these if you struggle with the basic, after all, you don't want your GPA to suffer).

* with the physics, some schools offer a calculus based and a non-calc based... The calc one is harder, might be better as well...

Note: check requirements for schools. Some schools require one semester of calculus, some schools require something else...

Generally schools want an academic year of English (usually 6 credits) and a semester of calc or other math (usually Calc I will satisfy the math requirement).

As for research...I searched some summer research programs online, and it seems like most of them are geared toward science majors. Will me being an Economics major deter them from being interested in me (assuming I have the GPA, and take some of the aforementioned classes)?

This is very true; I kind of underplayed English and math. English is usually required for Bachelor's degrees, so that should be covered. But here is a list of math requirements for med schools. If the school isn't listed, it doesn't have a requirement. However, at least one semester is recommended by those that don't have requirements.

So AP credits for Calc or any other math courses will not suffice, I'm assuming?
