Pre-Med Limericks

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This cycle's approaching it's ends
A new one, this month begins.
We'll party too hardy
From now to the starty
Of med school with SDN friends!

There once was a phlebo named Jud
who was deathly afraid of blood
it frightened him so
down to the floor he would go
till he landed with a bang and a thud!

If my vision is starting to blur
And when I speak it's only a slur
I should head straight to bed
(Or drink caffeine instead!)
Or I will fail my exam for sure

so I should say sure like they say it in the south: shuurrrrrrr

I missed my limericks so much,
My panties were all in a bunch.
So long as I'm 'round,
This thread will not drown
In the sea of dead threads and such.

lol, I am from the south. Do we say "sure" differently? I never noticed! 🙂

Sitra Achra is posting up in this

Yes. It's much more drawn-out, like just about every other sound is in "Southern." Do you have a Southern accent, tigress?

i always argue with my roommate about how to pronounce 'syrup'

i like to drawl it out and say "surup" but he insists on pointing his pinky and saying "seereep"

Not a strong one, but if you talk to me long enough it's sometimes noticeable. Mostly in the way I say certain words (like sure, apparently!). I also say y'all a lot 😀 I grew up in Charleston, SC. My husband is from New York and he just laughs at some of the things I say. But then again, I laugh at a lot of the stuff he says! Especially since he grew up in a northeastern Jewish community, so he sometimes uses some of the common Yiddishisms, which is amusing. He doesn't use them as much as some people I went to school with, though. Stuff like "I stayed by their house for the weekend." And apparently in the northeast people call a party for a certain time, and "putting up" something means starting to cook it or put it in the laundry or something, rather than taking something and putting it back in its place. I actually love regional linguistic differences. I hope they don't die out.

Okay time to think of some more limericks!

I actually don't have a Southern accent, but I've lived in the South most of my life, so I can fluently speak and understand "Southern." 😛 I guess my normal accent is your generic midwestern kind of accent. But I have noticed that when I speak to Southerners, I do start using more colloquialisms like y'all and ain't, and also stretching out my syllables more. Even funnier, when I speak to my lab colleagues, several of whom are Indian, sometimes I use their grammatically incorrect speech patterns without consciously thinking about it. I caught myself saying, "explain me this" earlier this week, and I was wondering, where the heck did THAT come from!!! I'm a linguistic Zelig. :meanie:

I think I will not survive
If that letter does not arrive
I'll know I am in
If the letter's not thin
It will restore my flagging sex drive

  Nice! I love this thread!

I would gladly offer my spleen
To admissions committee, unseen
I suffer depression
Psychoses progression
While they sit in offices, serene

There once was a young student doctor
Who cried when the attendings mocked her
She wailed an oration
During her surg rotation
So the surgeon just wound up and socked her.

Hmm... I can do better...

I just began here at SDN
When I found that I could not get in
To Baylor, how silly!
But Philly is chilly,
To be back in the south once again!

i'm on the waitlist at Baylor, go figure 🙂

There once was an SDN nerd
Whose habits were getting absurd
She stayed up all night
To do homework (yeah, right)
She has 10,000 posts, I've heard

There once was a girl in pre-allo
Whose thoughts where decidedly shallow
She started to train
To develop her brain
But the pondering made her too sallow

There once was a man in Urology
Whose patients were told this mythology:
He said "to pee straight
You must go on a date
And learn a little biology"

There was a doc known for his scams
He never did pass his exams
But he poked and he prodded,
He "hmm'ed" and he nodded,
And said, "That'll be 90 clams".

there was a young pre-med from dutton
whose brain was as small as a button.
so to make it look big,
he purchased a wig
and haughtily rolled about dutton.

there was a diene in solution
seeking diels-alder execution.
cyclohexene drew near,
said "I think it's quite clear
that your pi bonds do seek resolution".

there once was a michael reaction
who was lacking a carbonyl faction.
he tried to condense,
with effort immense,
but alas, couldn't force an attraction. +pity+

Dude, where were you with those when I was in OChem?? You rock!

We need new lims for the newbies
Or else they'll all become loonies.
They'll give up med school.
And that's never cool.
So make some more rhymin' rubies!

Waiting for MCAT makes me sick
I start yelling and screaming like a prick
But the score will come soon
And reinforce my gloom
Then I'll tell AMCAS to go suck my ****

I don't actually feel this way, I just thought it was funny 🙂

It IS funny. :meanie:

Here we are in the last week of May
And now June is a few days away.
At least at the long last
I'm finished with AMCAS
How I wish I could send it today!

bump this thread

I drink a hot coffee this morning;
The caffeine will hit without warning.
In the middle of ID,
I'll have to go pee
THEN notice the line that is forming.

The MCAT was my biggest trouble.
June 16Th will bust my bubble.
I’m worried about the stupid score
because most schools are number ******.
I must accept it and be humble.

this thread is getting my five star vote for sure

this thread is terrific. cmon guys, add some of your own! i'll get it started....

This process is so freakin' draining
That I find my libido is waning
Such a shame that my package
Has seen such a lackage
All due to my medical training

I am waiting for CU to call
but alas, I've heard no word at all
I live in their state
so that should be great
but I fear my MCAT was too small.

however old i may be
i just had to see
if i had what it takes
no matter the stakes
because in the end, it's up to me

ok, i'll loosen up.......

sometimes what we need
is just a little weed
to make all of our troubles
fly up in the air like bubbles
yet all that it takes is just a little seed

disclaimer: i don't smoke pot. honest.

I had many a question
throughout the PS section
for which i new not
what to fill in the dot
and somehow i feel i was not an exception!

This one is great, and you were not the exception!

I am waiting for envelopes, thick
As my time wanes by the tick
To get an acceptance by spring
I will gladly sing
Any song that is sung by Cheap Trick

i'm so fraught with despair
that i'm starting to lose my hair
yet while it takes every bit
i'd surely never quit
by the way, does anyone care?

SDN fills my work hours daily
Reading and posting all day, see.
But my boss doesn't know
I have no work to show
While I post and I post as they pay me.

😀
