I got 3 C s in Bio and chem , I got an A- in the second part of chem
I'm on an upward trend
I did not know how to study and had personal issues, I'm a junior now
Are my dreams of med school now ruined no matter many more A s I get?
What can I do? My stress levels are off the charts :/ im constantly worried

One semester of good grades is not a trend.

What's your cGPA.

I just finished my junior year, I forgot to put this semesters grades in which I took physics and a chemical forensics class and have an A in both so I have a 4.0 this semester and a 3.9 last semester so I think that might be a trend? I'm not sure

My cumulative is a 3.5 right now including this semester

What are you majoring in? That is, are the rest of your required classes mostly BCPS classes?

First figure out what you did right this semester, take that knowledge and apply it to future semesters. Start getting active about doing better in your courses, one semester is not enough proof to know whether you are on an upward trend.

Second your dreams are not shattered. There are people who have done worse and have been accepted to medical school. However, you will need to take 1 or 2 extra years before you apply (in order to increase your cumulative GPA). This will show whether it really is an upward trend. Then rock the MCAT afterward.

Third, get into a grove where you are getting good grades and not studying 10 hours a day to get them. Make sure you have a balance because this will keep you sane in college, medical school, and beyond.

Good luck to you.

I'm a neuroscience bio major
I have A s in all of my major classes but neuro classes/psych doesn't count for science which sucks
Yeah I m delaying a semester and all my other classes are mostly BCPM
I'm just worried that even if I get mostly A s , statistically my gpa won't be competitive enough due to those 3 Cs

My plan as of now is ochem and second part of physics in the summer
Mobio and ochem B in the fall
And biochem in the spring
Then calc 1 in the summer of next year
Followed by neurobio(easy for me cause I'm a neuro major hehe) and genetics
How does that sound?
I know I dug a hole for my self before I even started and I realize those 3 Cs are really detrimental however I did not realize that and have issues at that time ( I never even opened the textbook fr those classes) 🙁((

Sorry did not see this response. I would say you have the upward trend but I am not the best person to ask about if you are ready to apply (IMO you are ready).

If you break a 3.6 it is alright. Try not to worry too much about grades in the past and just focus on your classes. The MCAT will also have a higher wait on your application. People have gotten in to schools with a 3.5; it is far from over if you really dedicate yourself to school from now on.

Here are my science classes:
Pre med Bio 1:C
Pre med Bio 2:C+
Chem (ge): B
Chem(pre med) 1: C+
Chem pre med 2: A-
Physics A: A
Chem forensics (GE): A

My overall science is a 3.0
My cumulative is a 3.45
I still have organic chem series left
And physics B left
As well as Mobio and bio chem
And neurobio and genetics
I ll be delaying a semester and taking summers

I thought cumulative gpa didn't matter as much as the science , when med schools say the average is 3.7 are they talking about cumulative or science?

They are talking about cumulative GPA when they list the GPAs.

I was a neuro major. My neuro classes counted as science....

Doesn't the class have to start with Bio physics chem or math to be counted?
Do psych classes count?
I took psych stats idk if it counts

I thought only Classes that started with bio physics chem or math counted as science?
How about psych classes?
I took psych stats I wonder if that counts

nrosci wasnt an option on amcas. So I made it bio because that was the closest thing to what it really was

^ so i presume that means psych doesn't count as part of the science ?

If the "science" you're talking about refers to BCPM courses (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math) then yes you're correct, psych doesn't count. Psychology is still a "science" but isn't included in your BCPM gpa.

My grades were similar.

Finished strong and had multiple acceptances.

lol okay this whole science vs cumulative gpa is weird.. So I guess med schools look primarily toward the science gpa? I took statistics but it was called psych stats, would that be included under Math?

Here's a general list of courses in their individual categories. Psychology is listed as a behavioral science.

Even if its under a different department, as long as the course title falls under the BCPM courses then it is a science.

I had a statistics course that was under the economics department and it counted the first time I applied.

There are numerous threads strictly asking for people that have been accepted with GPA's in the low 3's and they get a lot of responses so GPA doesn't matter that much for everyone. The common theme was that all those people were 30+ on the MCAT though and probably interviewed well and knew which schools to apply to. I'm one of those students. Just keep trying hard and dominate the MCAT. I would say that bad grades in general bio would be a concern. Med school will be similar memorization times 10.

^ so i presume that means psych doesn't count as part of the science ?

Not for BCPM. Note that neuroscience does fall under the "Bio" part of the BCPM category though.

You still have a chance. Do well from now on and ace the MCAT.

ace the mcat, and honestly, focus on your ECs. So many people gripe over whatever .1 or .01 on their application that they fail to realize how lacking their ECs are. If you're not the sharpest tool in the shed, show them that you're the most dedicated instead.
