I recently got in to CNCP, but as most of you know the school has not yet received its precandidate status and will have one more chance in June to obtain it in order for classes to start in Fall 08. I was just wondering has there ever been a case where a pharmacy school had to delay their classes at least a year b/c they couldnt receive precandidate status?? If so, has it occurred more than one time??? I am confident that CNCP will get precandidate status by June w/o any problems based on what the dean told us at the interview, but I would like to know the gist of the possibilities based on the previous pharmacy schools that went through this situation. Thanks!

I am wondering the same thing...I was also accepted to a school who is applying for accreditation.

I don't think I would ever choose a non-accreditated school over an accreditated school because pharmacy school is already stressful enough. Every school is going to say they are the best but the reality is not every school is good so take everything they say with a grain of salt. In addition, the ACPE now requires schools to also gain regional accreditation. This is important because that is how the nursing profession limits the number of nursing schools.

I can understand why some people choose to attend a school that is still applying for accreditation so weigh your options before you make any decisions and always remember to get the facts from the ACPE.

To answer your question, yes there has been numerous cases where ACPE denied precandidate status and the school had to delay their 1st class come June.

I remember a school in Texas (Incarnate Ward??), Hawaii (HICP), and a few others throughout the US. I am not saying CNCP won't get pre-candidate because I don't know anything about that school. However, I will say ACPE is becoming more strict with who it will approve so I wouldn't be surprised if CNCP or any school gets turns down their first year.

If you have another choice, definitely go for it. If you don't care and are willing to reapply next year and you just absolutely love the school, then stick with it.

GOOD LUCK!
