I'm curious to find out what you guys are planning doing for internship.

Who is more about prelim medicine versus transitional year?
Is it only about competitiveness (versus those pesky derm/optho/rads people) or quality of strong medical education?
Is there anybody interested in prelim surg/peds or OB?

I'm currently undecided between prelim medicine and transitional. I understand the latter is more competitive, but whenever I talk to serious Anesthesia residents they emphasize the importance of serious medical intern education. Apparently transitional is like another 4th year. They say the increased responsibility and intensity of education makes for a better MDAs.

That's enough out of me for now. Thoughts?

From what I have seen, the people that did a medicine prelim year seemed to have the least difficulty making the transition to the CA-1 year. The transitional year did allow those people to read ahead more for anesthesia but the confidence level between the two groups is noticeable. We also have several board certified internists in our residency and they feel that all of what we are asked to learn they have already covered in internal medicine with the exception of the machines, some drugs, etc.

I know that the people who did a surgery prelim year feel they got the least preparation for anesthesia.
