Preliminary Year Programs (TY, Med, Surg)

I wish someone had started a thread like this last year. Please add your thoughts / programs that you think would fit these categories. Some people have said that it's a good idea to do your prelim year where you do residency (to have friends from internship when you start out with your one other co-resident). Others say it doesn't matter as it's just a hard year and you should try to do it in a nice environment. Nonetheless, it's one year of your life.

"Dash of pain" seems very subjective. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being "you get the year off" to 10 being "left alone your first day in the ICU with 20 patients...." I wouldn't put penn's year near a 1.
