Tried to do a search and couldn't really come up with any answers. Hoping you guys might know or can point me in the right direction.
Are there specific requirements a Preliminary Internal Medicine program must meet? For example you have to have x number of floor months, y number of icu, z number of electives, etc. Or is it pretty much up to the prelim program to make their schedule as they see fit?
On the other hand, do some advanced programs specifically require a certain prelim schedule or are they fine with whatever program as long as its accredited? Thanks for any input.

It is pretty much up to the individual prelim program how many months of inpatient, outpatient, ICU, or electives you get. As lowly interns though, generally you will get assigned the grunt rotations.

As far as rotations needed to satisfy the advanced residency requirements, this will vary according to specialty.

For example, in PM&R the first year requires at least 6 months of “fundamental clinical” rotations: any combination of IM, FM, peds, surgery, EM, OB/GYN. Only 2 months can be used in non-direct patient care electives such as radiology or research. All accredited transitional year programs satisfy this requirement, as does any prelim medicine year. As far as PM&R is concerned, there are no specific ICU or inpatient requirements for the first year of training. You could theoretically do 12 months of outpatient rotations.

The ACGME website has a list of program requirements for each individual specialty. Look under "Review Committees"
