why? did they offer you one? are you dead set on staying there? there may not be many prematch arrangements this year from any program so i wouldnt hold out. if you love it there, im sure they'll see it in your eyes.

ALthough UNM is considered a weaker prog by some (Sorry, Noyac). It is in a desirable location, for some. Plus, with the interest of the last few years, I can't imagine them not going through the match.
My feelings about UNM were very mixed but their regional and trauma are great.

Your right Dre, it is considered weak in the research (I still managed to win 1st place at the WARC with my research) and academics areas. It is strong in the **** that counts, cases and lots of them. No fellows hogging away cases, No crna's doing the cases you want (crna's are there but they are workers). And the pain program was so strong when I was there that I did pain my first 3 years out of training without a fellowship. I don't know if it is still that strong b/c Steve Abram (pain guru), my chair, has since retired but there were many other studs as well.
But when I was there I never saw any prematches and I was chief resident which means I was involved in the selection process.
So if the program is offering one and you like it and want to learn to perform anesthesia better than a large portion of programs out there, even the prestigious ones, then jump on it.
Side note; if you are confident, smart enough (you don't need to be a genius to do this), and willing to work, you can learn to be a great anesthesiologists at almost any program as long as they offer the right cases and case load.
