Hello all,

I've been reflecting for the past few weeks and I think Osteopathic is a better choice for me and what I want to pursue in the future (I want to specialize in Pediatrics).

My only concern is my pre application marks (not the philosopher 😉).

By preapplication time I will have an overall GPA of 3.45 (roughly) and my weakpoint is my science GPA which is 3.23. My MCAT is 10,10,10. Do I stand a good chance at getting an interview? On top of the fact that I will be applying from Canada (do they consider canadian applicants = to out of state like most md schools); even though I'm applying from Canada I am a US Citizen.

Any helpful advice would greatly be appreciated.

Cheers :luck:

you'll get in almost everywhere

You think so...because my science GPA is relatively speaking...GARBAGE 🙁

Forgive my language

Cheers :luck:

its been done before.
You may want to talk to me or other Canadians on Osteo or Pre-osteo boards

 you Canucks are far too polite... excuse your language for saying garbage? you guys are too funny 🙂

Thank you for your comments 🙂

We canucks may seem polite, but put us in a hockey rink and we will become savages 😉

I've got more bad news that I just found out.

I assumed that you can include math courses in your science GPA like with AMCASS but since I can't include an A+ I got in Calc my science GPA goes down to 3.16. 🙁 But my overall is still 3.45.

Theres one thing that will change this for me, and that is their policies on repeat courses. I heard that with AACOMAS if you repeat a course, they will only look at the final attempt and only it will be included in the GPA the schools see. If this is true and my first attempt at first year bio isnt inlcuded (I got a C in it 🙁) then my second attempt where I got an A will be included alone..is this true?

i believe grades are replaced. you should prolly figure out exactly how much of a disadvantage you face due to the fact that you are applying as a nonUS resident. im canadian by citizenship, but have permanent resident status luckily.

I just got done playing a hockey game (I'm goalie), and there are 4 Canadians on my team (I'm from MI), and they talk more **** than anyone else I've ever heard of. But, in general, they back it up with good play, so they are allowed.

Back on topic, I got into LECOM-PA and LECOM-FL with a 2.85 CUM/SCI, and a 29N MCAT. You are head and shoulders above me, so you should be fine...

I'm actually a US citizen, I moved to Canada as a young kid.

I am graduating from University of Wisconsin this summer and I am taking a year off. I will be taking the MCAT in April this year and applying for DO and MD schools this summer.

Ill prob graduate with around a 3.5 GPA with a BS in Molecular Biology and Honors in the Liberal Arts, but I botched first semester O Chem with a C, but I made a comeback in 2nd semester O Chem with a B....there are 2 BCs also..O Chem Lab and 1st semester Physics.....am I still competitive ??? can I get in...I know I havent taken the MCAT yet but I am in a prep course.

I was interested in PCOM and AZCOM for DO schools

and Univ. of Wisconsin, MCoW, Temple, Drexel, Thomas Jefferson, Vanderbilt, Univ of Iowa, Univ of Michigan, Mayo,Loyola, Emory, Hawaii.......for MD schools

How do my options look???

Were you born in Hawaii, have close relatives in hawaii, or lived most of your live in Hawaii? otherwise your chances are "nada" for Hawaii med. 🙁

Oklahoma State, Michigan State, and North Texas State are worth a shot, especially if you do well on your MCAT.

Haha..yeah There is now way I am getting into Hawaii....I am from Wisconsin....just me wishful thinking 🙂

Any other schools both DO and MD that anyone thinks I should try for let me know

Now that I found out that my first mark for first year bio (a C) would be replaced by the 2nd time i took it (an A). My overall GPA becomes a 3.6 and my science becomes 3.45. If my MCAT is a 30 (10.10.10) do I have a pretty good chance of getting into MSUCOM (my #1 school)?

id be shocked if you didnt get in, 30 MCAT is extremely high for DO schools.

I think you will be ok.
Just apply to many schools to increase your chance.
Good Luck

A 30 on your MCATs and you are worried? You will have no problem getting interviews. Also, was the GPA from a private or public university?

I went from a B to an A in OCHEM (never mentioned at any of my interviews, you made an improvment, they wont frown). I don't know much about the rest of the MD schools you applied to but Jeff. Jeff is pretty difficult to get into (one of the best MD schools in the nation). Just keep the faith and try to nail over a 30 on the MCATs or places like Jeff wont even look at your secondary, bastards.

These schools take very few people from out of state.
