Premed Advisor

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Could be because he will never become a doctor, and he's jealous of you.

Well my pre-med advisor always looks bored when he talks to me, haha

Stories like this make me glad I've never really met with a "pre-med" advisor. I figured I could figure it all out for myself. It's not like I'd trust what they said anyway.

I don't know about you guys, but I think pre-med advisors are a waste of a drive up to school, well at least at my school. They tell me things that I already know. But, the pre-med advisory committee is helpful towards your application year..

At least you guys have a premed advisor, my advisor sat me down for a few minutes and then started talking about this island and then all of a sudden he was trying to sell me time shares. Needless to say, I am happy bought those time shares when the price was right.

I remember my pre med advisor started laughing for about 5 mins straight (I was timing it.....lol) when I said med school then she said why would someone as stupid as me and with such bad grades even try! Gotta love these people, where do they get their info 😕. Though I did have a 1.8 at the time, probably did seem kinda stupid! When i get accepted i want to go back and throw it in her face:laugh:

Wow, I didn't realize how lucky I am that my school has such a great pre-health advisor. She is on top of her game and does a great job of bringing in admissions directors to give talks. Also, the pre-health office collects and distributes all of our letters for us for free.

lol.. even I would laugh at a 1.8... thats just impossible! haha.. though I see u ahve a 3.5 ish right now...

good luck!

I must have gotten lucky, as mine was very helpful and supportive. Since I am a post-Bacc, she explained to me how I could get committee LORs. Big help if you have been out of college for a few years.

My pre-med adviser has help put several... hundred... people into medical school.

So I'm not too worried.

I feel bad for all of you with bad premed advisors. I guess like some others I got lucky; my advisor was an ADCOM for a years before doing premed advising.

Its not that tough to advise. High mcat, high gpa, research, volunteering, clincial expereince...should equal acceptance somewhere. however, high mcat and gpa are usually a problem for most people.

Pre-Med Advisors are clueless.
My advisor told me Math classes are not included in the science GPA.

Today I needed her to sign one signature for one of my documents, but told me I would need to come in next week to do it. I live far from campus, and I wasnt planning on coming. WHY DO I NEED TO COME BACK JUST FOR YOU TO SIGN IT!!!!!!!!!

So I came back to the advising center roughly 45 minutes after, and she was still there... I just ended up talking to another advisor, who just signed it for me on the spot. He laughed when I told him about her.

1) It's a logical fallacy to assume that even the mean of pre-med advisers are clueless based on your bad experience.

2) Math classes aren't included in the science GPA. They're included in the math GPA. That's what the BCPM GPA consists of. If math was counted with the science, then there would be several classes counted twice. She was right.

I felt really blessed with my premed advisor before I even came to SDN. Now he feels like a godsend.

You're being ridiculous. Nobody talks of the "Math GPA". When we talk science GPA, we talk everything, including math.

I hate people who go all technical. You're first post is obviously true. You don't need to link me to Wikipedia.
Anyways, most people on here would agree they are not trustful, and rarely know what they are talking about.

As far as I know the BCPM GPA is considered the science gpa so your math courses would definitely be included in that calculation. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe AMCAS calculates a cummulative GPA, a BCPM (science gpa) and an all others (AO) GPA.

You're gonna love medical school...🙄

Right. Most pre-med advisors don't know how to do their job, because, well, I have to assume you've met most of the pre-med advisors in the world. It's not like they go to school or anything in order to get that job, and it's not like they get paid based on how well they do their job.

Come to think of it, most doctors don't know what they're talking about either. I know because I had a bad doctor once, and I've heard of other people who have had bad doctors. So what if they went to medical school?
