I hope your right that there are plenty, but my bro says most of the kids in his school (toronto med) suck when it comes to partying. Once they had a med pre-drink at some1's place and then my bro was like alright what bar are we heading to?? they were like.. oh, actually i think were gonna go to bed, got a lot of work tomorrow.

WTF!! its not a PRE-drink if ur not doing anything after!
Thats why he chills with a lot of business students, those dudes know what they;re doin.

any geeks in here? heyyy

during the LAN party... PARTY IT UP! 7x a week!

8, easily, and I'm in med school..

If you're studying at midnight on a friday night, you better be taking the MCAT saturday or sunday, or you just suck at time management.

I've done it all, and I can honestly say that I prefer a kickback with down to earth friends, a few rounds of D&D, or a LAN party with some RTS nerds to getting boozed/high/loaded.

Intoxication is the last refuge of the painfully boring.

Plus, it is really horrible being around wasted people if you are not.

haha, while I don't know about the LAN parties and all, I definitely agree that intoxication is the last refuge of the painfully boring! lol... I mean, unless you lack any personality whatsoever, what good does actually lowering your neural stimulation level do for making you (and others) more interesting? Oh yeah, I forgot... it also lowers your standards for what's interesting! lol...

🙄 In my experience I feel like the typical the typical pre-med lacks way more personality than the people I go out with.....for what it's worth.

I'd have to agree.

I think doing things without intoxication are super fun too (paintballing for one is <3) and just chilling and playing a game of chess at a coffee shop with ur roomate is all fine and dandy. But for the love of God lose control every once and a while. it is FUN.

LOL. I know it as "pre-gaming," I guess in reference to the drinking games to come.

Sure, lose control every once in a while but why does that necessitate the need for alcohol? I can let loose or "lose control" without the need for alcohol; can't you?
And for what it's worth I do drink socially at times but I'm not so sure I see the value in getting drunk, etc. A little tipsy is all you really "need" to have the "fun" start happening as well as to find the drunk girl much more entertaining. (You can't really enjoy the dumb things she does if you're practically passed out yourself, lol.)

Zero.

I think getting drunk and/or going to parties is a serious waste of time. While I realize the social "value" of drinking alcohol, I also do not plan to ever ingest alcohol in my life. So yes, I'm probably what most of you would consider insanely boring...

which is a shame because I would love to get invited to a strip club or something, but these things just don't happen sober for anyone I know.

My weekends are spent either studying, engaging in a personal solo hobby, or going out with close/not-so-close friends. It's usually a pretty evenly split mix of all 3 aspects, actually.

yes it does. I guess some people like going out and some don't.

Howso, lol?
You can't let go of life, some of your dignity, and just be crazy w/o alcohol? You can't, as a previous poster mentioned, go to a strip club sober? (Heck yes you can!)
You can't enjoy a party w/o alcohol?
Must be a sad life to always have to spend so much money to have a good time!

You made a pretty big jump I'd say from some people not drinking a lot to "I guess some people...don't [like going out]." That's like saying, "Not everyone likes bowling so I guess some people like going out and some don't" (<---WTF?!)
You can go out w/o boozin' it up. You can have fun without messing with your brain's chemistry, or at least I can. If you can't, I am very sorry -- not that you enjoy alcohol (that's cool, so do I), but that you can't enjoy yourself in a state of normal mentation.

didn't mean to come off so blunt. case in point is I enjoy drinking, you don't which is respectable....but it's kind of rash to categorize people who do drink as people with no personality, or don't know how to have fun sober because that's not true at all.

👍

To each his own is the moral of this thread.

Alcohol definitely loosens you up. I wouldn't dare pull some of the dance moves that I do without some alcohol in me.

haha, in reality I agree. I mostly found the quote entertaining...and sometimes true. But to say all such people are lacking in personality is obviously not true.

They must be pretty simple dance moves, TBH, because most of the stuff I do dance move wise, I would never attempt with alcohol in me (I might kill the girl -- literally). I would agree though that people tend to feel "loosened up" on alcohol, although when considering doing anything risky (like certain dance moves or, much more likely, driving, etc.), EtOH's effect on the amygdala can definitely become a problem.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic because some people take dancing seriously and the second half of your post is deep...but my comment was meant in the sense that I don't know how to dance and alcohol embarasses me further, although I have no problems with either.

Senior year and already accepted to several med schools:

Tuesday = $1 beer night
Thursday = $1 margarita night
Friday = go to bar, party, etc.
Saturday = go to bar, party, etc.

so 4 times per week = 16 times per month

(somehow Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday night cramming was enough to pull off another 4.0 semester, too! hooray for efficient time management!)

Sophomore and Junior years, however, it was like 1-2 times per week.
(4-8 times per month)

let me guess, cain and abels?

Haha, no sarcasm there. Flips and aerials with alcohol kill:

I was kidding though in the sense that I got your post. Some people do drink to get the confidence to get out on the dance floor.

(I have a pretty strong dance background myself. It sort of comes with the being a musician and a vocal performer -- you get more gigs as a vocalist if you can dance and act as well.)

If you're talking about motor control, wouldn't it be more appropriate to refer to EtOH's effects on the cerebellum? 😴

Well...both, really. I was thinking amygdala in terms of no fear of injury. A person on EtOH is far more likely to perform risky moves such as attempt a flip or aerial s/he has only seen (and certainly never attempted) than someone who is sober. That added to the lack of motor control and balance due to its effects on the cerebellum and the parietal lobe makes such actions even more risky than if the person were sober. The result of these effects is probable injury and possible death.

Interesting

seriously. i think party = a pint of ben&jerry's, a beer, the couch, and a few episodes of the office and/or 30 rock.

... kidding. sort of.

change beer with wine/sangria and 30 rock with Entourage or a Football/Basketball/Soccer and I think I found my soul mate 😍, lol.

But seriously, 1-4 times a month usually now that i'm working full time and go to bars with my co-workers or clubs and lounges with friends. Was much more when I was in school.

Yeah...I would never do that with anyone, even if we're both completely sober.

people who said zero... I acutally feel really bad for you guyz.. some of mine friends are like that.. they just let go..

abt 3-4 times a month for me..

Best day to party = Halloween. hands down.

i had the worst halloween in history of halloweens last year. and by worst i don't mean best due to drunkenness, i mean worst due to confusion as a result of drunkenness leading to ridiculous actions.

it was one of those nights that your friends tell people about for years to come just to embarrass you.

and i would counter that the best time to party is the first week of school. halloween is awesome but leads to thinking people are a lot better looking than they are because you're assuming it's all a costume

ahahaha, can i ask...what was he dressed as. more importantly, what were u dressed as??

as for me this halloween i was an amazing mix of the following: pirate. priest. man with dreads. I also carried around an ak-47 toy gun. baller status, achieved.😎
unfortunately by next morning it would appear that i had been raped because i lost half my costume, my gun was broken, and my priest gown was ripped..

1st week back is fun but still Halloween wins just because, you women have absolutely no boundaries.

I am going to my friends bday party. I guess that i can say "FINALLY," cuz i didnt do it for a long time lol. I have no idea what to buy him.... Any suggestions about gift?

me 👍......man from the looks of this thread some of you guys are lame😴.....I hope there will be some people who like to party in med school.

Thank god somebody is greek in here.. GO GREEK OR GO HOME

But I know what you mean, everybody seems so lame.

I think, by that math at least, that's $163 in a WEEK. So, if you do all that every week, you're looking at about $652 per month.

Number of sex: enough, -$100/night
Number of parties: 4 quality nights/month, -$300/mo
Hangovers the next morning: 3-4/mo, -$30
Number of fun evening: 5/7 days a week, $20/wk
3.9 gpa ... worth it.

having a life but forgetting about it by morning... meaningless

--------------------

Number of sex: enough plus marriage
Number of parties: 4-8 quality nights/mo w/o alcohol, 2/mo with alcohol
Hangovers the next morning: 0
Number of fun evenings: 5-7/wk
4.0 gpa... just right

Having a life and actually remembering it the next day... priceless.

There are some events in life you might want to remember
, for everything else, there's Alcohol!

I just thought about this as I was leaving the beer store about an hour ago. I thought wait I just spent $100 on beer that cant be right.

But in the end its all just a few bucks, i'm having fun and thats all that matters. I might have a "drinking problem" but like corey smith says- Maybe I will start acting my age next year

Lol. Understandable error, if you're imbibing that much alcohol on a regular basis (OOOOOH, BURN).

And also, lol at your icon. Clearly, you've never been to Japan. They actually have a word for "working so hard for so long that you DIE": Karoushi.

I seriously dislike how not drinking automatically makes me 'lame' by some students' standards in this thread. Seriously? Stop being so close-minded and realize that there are people out there that like having fun and can lose control without resorting to substances (and like it better). Do yourself a favor and get over yourself.

But you gotta look cool on the internets! Come, now. Let's use that noggin.

Anyway, I used to party a lot. Ohhh man, quite a lot. It's been getting old to me as time goes on, though -- mostly because the largest demographic doing the partying is doing it in as noob a fashion as possible. (AKA, "OMG GUYZ let's drink TONS of natty light and vladimir vodka WE ARE SO xXHARD x COREXx!!!" ...F that, now. I have self-hate towards my roots.)

I've been staying in a lot more often nowadays, mostly because I'm knitting mad knits like a little old lady. Mmm, I love gifts of cheap crap being made from even cheaper crap. But I digress!

Current fad?

Drunken Board Game Party Night.

So fun. So indescribably fun.

yeah, but what i seriously dislike is posts like the one i've quoted above that give us non-drinkers/non-partiers a bad name. everyone in this thread needs to get over themselves-- some people party, some people don't, and there's no use judging anyone because of the choices they make. jeez.
