This baby, Nicholas, had been so neglected, his head took this flattened shape.

Shawitz and Astenaki, the two kids I loved most

Sammy, the oldest boy in the sick room, and me.

The view from where I was.

God, I miss these kids so much.

For more from Ethiopia, here's my flickr: http://flickr.com/photos/20423650@N00/

Start at 4 and go back - I entered the most important pics of the kids first, unfortunately. Stupid flickr. Same pictures on facebook. This is also to combat the widespread notion that I am too vain - I promise that with no makeup and lots of Ethiopian stomach flu, I look awful in every. single. picture in that album. 😉

Nice pics from Ethiopia. Did you go there by yourself or with friends?

Bandaid addiction? 🙂

Hey Jackie - don't hate!! You know it's not nice for hotties like you to hate on the less fortunate girls like me.

BTW, I would post a pic of my "assets" but I don't have a wide angle lense.

I went by myself, and honestly, I wouldn't do it again and I wouldn't recommend it. Next time I go, I go with a support network of one at least. Being sick and alone in Ethiopia was not fun.

And Dallenoff - I wore bandaids because I bite my cuticles and always had open wounds. So I was definitely psycho bandaid lady. And, I mean, it might be excessively paranoid, but whatever. It didn't hurt anyone.

I don't think that's being excessively paranoid; it's merely exercising appropriate caution. I think that if I were in that situation, though, that rather than using bandaids, the circumstances would have given impetus to stop biting my cuticles.

You underestimate the overwhelming force of my neurosis. 😉

But yes, I definitely kept it to a minimum over there.

Well, it definitely shows that you're not a risktaker, and adcoms will see right through your trip. It's like going on a spacewalk and wearing a spacesuit--so lame. 🙄

I wish you luck this second time, you're gonna need a lot of it once this whole thing backfires right in your non-risktaking face!

For some reason, posting pictures of one's significant other rather than of oneself seems really weird.

mentioning that "she doesnt have sdn" is kind of bizarre too

i didnt think you needed to go to the store and buy sdn?

And wear gloves. 👍

If this baby is negative, I will make his adoption a personal project. PCR RESULTS, COME ALREADY.

EDIT: Is he not the most beautiful baby, though? Does he not belong in Anne Geddes pictures? Is this not what a baby is supposed to look like? And naturally, pictures could never convey what a clever, curious, determined and good-natured little guy he is.

Me and my bud at a party last week. Im the guy on the right. I know, were a bunch of wierdos, but we like goofing off. This is funny, its like a pre med hot or not.

That's true. I spent a few months at an orphanage for HIV positive children in India and it was a really great experience, but there were a lot of times when I felt incredibly lonely and homesick.

Nice, I ran wih the bulls too. Didn't get a hotel room, had to sleep in the park...I miss Spain 😀

Ha Ha Ha...I had to do the exact same thing...

I missed the La Tomatina festival though. Did you make it by chance? I would love to see some picks from that.

Wow, I just looked through all these pictures and realized, "I'm gonna be the best looking guy in medical school!" Wish I had a picture to back it up, but my face gets all blurry like in the Ring. However, if you use your imagination and conjure a vision of a young Marlon Brando eating Will Smith, losing 200 pounds and having a manchild with that Kumar from Harold and Kumar's movie... That guy looks just like my dad!

"It's easy to cast the first stone, when you have a stone casting machine, or if someone tells you they already cast their stone, and you just missed it when you were picking up your stone, or if the person says 'Hoy prick! throw that stone at me!', or..."

Did it work? Can anyone see my pic? Is my tie alright? 🙂

Where is that dutchess girl at?????

Now I want HER to PM me 🙂

That's why we went! But i really think they're just saying that to get people to go there. oh well, it was fun anyway. But you know, I realized that I'm getting old because I could only handle a few rides at a time. I used to be able to run to each ride but now my friends and I get dizzy and tired from walking up that stupid hill! hahaha

for the record, i also in fact slept in the lawn by the train station in Pampelona for the running. Even if i could afford to spend the money for the hotel room, i wouldn't have done it. I had no blankets, nothing. coldest night of my life.

No I didn't go either. Not sure if it happened while I was there. I didn't get to Ibiza either, too expensive, but It sounds pretty awesome.

 LOL!!!!!! Thank you VERY much !! Ineeded a good laugh to get me through writting more secondaries! I´ll be cracking up for the rest of the day!

Well, I'm usually pretty shy about this kind of thing, but here goes. Don't be jealous, I'm just one of the lucky few to be blessed with both brains and beauty.

Good stuff Dave 👍

Really good stuff - where were the pics taken?

You didn't drink enough then! 😛 We slept in some tiny little park right near the main street. Same thing, no blankets or anything...no bags either. The next morning we awoke to some sort of marching band that was literally standing in a semi circle around us on the lawn. The next night we found a "hostel" literally right on the main street overlooking the Encierro for $10, but we ran the next morning so we didn't use our nice view. We got a much better one 😀

thanks lab monster-
