I've heard of people gettting interviewed in one of their foreign languages during an interview. Here's my concern: I listed myself as "advanced" in Japanese (I can use it in 95% of scenarios), but if the interviewer starts talking about really technical or philosophical stuff, I may encounter some trouble. Is it worth my time to brush up on the language before going in? Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it. Being able to use it in 95% of scenarios is pretty advanced. You're not claiming to be equivalent to a native speaker. I think you'll be fine as long as you can hold a normal conversation. Also, I could be wrong, but I doubt that your interviewer will speak Japanese (or at least not well enough to be talking about philosophical issues).

I'm probably going to brush up on my Chinese and French before my interview just in case. Sometimes when I'm nervous it's hard to speak in a foreign language.

Just say "I'm sorry, I don't understand", and that would be that.

And chill.

No one has 100% mastery of a language (especially a second or third language)

If you don't follow something, don't be afraid to speak up and tell your interviewer you didn't understand (either in Japanese or English)

ee? simatta,imiwakannai
LOL it just means

"一生懸命努力すれば、強酸が変わります!
If you work hard enough, mountain and river will erode away!
(If you work hard enough, you will make a big difference as a size of mountain and river)
[きょうさん is more colloquial term than 強酸. Perhaps that throws people off]

That's the spirit!

Cheer up!"

Yup, adding idioms to my list of Japanese to brush up on

@Lost in Translation I beg your pardon, sir?

Just tell him or her "I can speak/read Japanese well enough, but I'm not comfortable enough to use it at this level."
N = 1. Results may vary. Good luck.

It means
"What do you want to add to this?"
"Do you want to add any of your assertion?"

I had a bunch of interviews and no one actually spoke to me in Chinese or Spanish. I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm in the middle of a big Star Wars binge.

Apparently part of being a Dark Lord of the Sith is being fluent in the Sith written and verbal language. Anyone Force Sensitive can use the Dark Side. So if you were wondering what made Sith unique....
