Question!

I have one year before I (hopefully) get into Dental School. Do you guys recommend that I take Genetics, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Biochem courses at a community college just to prepare myself for first year curriculum? Or should I just audit these courses? Basically I want to review the material now so that when I encounter them during my first year I am well prepared. The material is most probably more difficult, but perhaps it will help me down the road.

Any suggestions - THANKS 🙂

If the grades don't matter (ie, if you don't need the credit/have already graduated/etc.) then just audit the courses.

The only problem with this is that you might be tempted to skip out on them since you have no grade to show for your work, which would sort of negate the point of you taking the classes anyways.

I've found that grades can be a great motivator to go to class, and auditing is a great motivator to sleep in or only go a couple of times the entire semester.

I think these classes would be a great review for you, but they might not help as much as you think.

Your dental school will probably pass the knowledge you learn in these classes in two weeks' time.

Still, it is an interesting idea and could be worthwhile if you have nothing else on your plate.

I agree with ItsGavinC, if you want to take anything take Anatomy and micro only.

The courses I took in Genetics and Cell Biology in undergrad were quickly forgotten as soon as I started dental school because we never talked about any of that stuff for the rest of dental school ever again.

We did take Biochemistry in first year and Microbiology in second year during dental school. So I suppose these two classes may be of some help to you in dental school.
