Hello! Since I now have the summer off before starting dental school in the fall I was wondering if any current dental students or students in the same boat as me could give me their opinions on subjects to be really strong in going into school. Anything it would be good to study over the summer, things like that? I am definitely going to relax but I would hate to just let my mind sit.

Thanks!

If you really wanted to do some reading, start reading about dental anatomy and occlusion. But, I agree with everyone else in saying that doing nothing is the best option. You're going to wish your "mind could just sit" soon enough.

i can see why you have the urge to do this but its really not worth it. i think resting before dental school is important but more than that i do not believe you could study effectively enough to give yourself a significant advantage or head start.

I think "no studying" might be a bit strong. Definitely don't work yourself, but not all studying has to be work.

I'm in the midst of a gap year before starting this fall, and it's been the first (and maybe last) time in my life when I'll have an extended period of time to explore the sciences without deadlines and assignments. I can read whatever I want based on where my curiosity goes, and it's been fun. I've been bouncing around biochem, anatomy, physio... even came across a small review document for general surgery boards, which has been an interesting jumping off point for tangents into different systems.

But it's relaxing because I'm doing whatever I want. So, I wouldn't suggest that you study, but your life will be easier this fall if you're already a curious person.

Grab a head and neck anatomy book and get started.

Thank you all for your suggestions! Probably going to take the advice from the majority and just enjoy the summer off 🙂
