I know a lot of med schools recommend or require a course in sociology because of the new MCAT focus. I'm thinking there will be more requiring it when the new MSAR comes out for people applying in the upcoming cycle so I want to be able to fulfill this requirement. However, a course in sociology will be tough to fit into my schedule just based on the class times, so I was wondering if people think a course in social work would be acceptable instead?

How would we know? Why would what the people think matter to a school? Why should schools care at all what SDNers think?

This is an issue to ask the schools themselves. Scary, I know, to imagine emailing the office about this, but if you want to know, then do it.

I seriously doubt it. Those are very different fields of study.

No, sociology and social work are entirely different subjects despite having social as the root word. Also, you can take pre-reqs after acceptance as long as they are finished by the time you matriculate.
