DIY post-bac for med school prereqs. Liberal arts background with 0 science credits. Best plan of study for next 2 years? Chemistry before physics or vice versa?

Current plan:
Fall 2015- bio 1/gen chem 1
Spring 2016-bio 2/gen chem 2
Summer A- physics 1
Summer B- organic chem 1
Fall 2016- physics 2/organic chem 2

Is this a decent course load or should I take more/less at a time? I took 18 credits on several occasions during my undergrad studies without any problems but I am completely new to the world of science.

Also can biochem be substituted for organic chem 2? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you can, try and take some more classes that are non science to show that you can hand a full load. But that's only if you aren't working your tail off. Otherwise it looks great, I wouldn't push trying take more than two science courses if you are new it it. You never know!

You must take all of Ochem as well as biochem I believe to complete the prereqs for applying.

Good luck!

Some schools require a year of organic and recommend biochem/genetics and others will let you swap out biochem for organic 2. You need to check the schools you are interested in.

This course schedule looks about the same as ones from most post bac programs. I would just be careful taking Organic during the summer depending on where you are taking it as well as who is teaching it. I have friends who have regretted taking Organic in 5/6 weeks (Disclaimer: this was at an Ivy League school).

Good Luck!!
