I am a non-traditional applicant. I have good grades 3.8+ and good DAT scores (21). The problem I have is I have to pay out of state tuition at my school and I am missing some of the prerequisites. I have to work to take care of my family/ pay the bills. I am wondering if dental schools ever allow admission without some of the prerequisites. How are online courses viewed?

I am just trying to figure out how to proceed.

Thanks.

Prereqs are required. I haven't heard of any schools making exceptions. But I took many of mine at a community college that was very inexpensive, since I already have a degree from a university. For someone in our situation, community college is definitely the way to go.

I don't know about online courses but it's impossible to matriculate into dental school without having completed the prerequisites Have you tried to apply to
obtain in-state status?

Yes, but because I originally came here for school and have not been out of school for at least one full year I am still considered a non resident.

If they weren't required, they'd be called "recommended coursework" instead of prerequisites.

I understand that. I guess my question/comment should be more in depth. I took a basic physics class and a Bio 1 class as an undergrad. But, when I took these I did not have dental school in mind. After graduating with a bachelor's and Master's degree, I decided on dental school and have taken a gen chem class, organic 1, and another basic bio class. I am wondering if schools will allow me to count those earlier classes towards the fulfillment of my prereqs because I don't want to have to take them again if I don't have to, especially because I did well in them.

Thanks

Of course those earlier classes will count. Well...how long has it been since you've taken them?

At Loma Linda all prereqs must have been taken in the five years immediately before matriculation.
