Hello all!

I was just wondering, do adcoms have a chance of rejecting you if you take the pre-prerequisites in the same semester? For example, taking Bio 1 and Bio 2 or Phys 1 and Phys 2( what I am trying to do) in the same semester? I was just curious because (class) 2 needs to be taken after (class) 1 is taken, so do dental schools follow that rule or just as long as I complete them they are fine with it?

Thanks!!

I don't think they would mind???? Its probably going to be a bigger issue with your institution if Class 1 is a prereq for Class 2

They don't care how you do it, as long as you do it.

Can you explain what you mean by "bigger issue"? Thanks!

If Class A is a pre-requisite (AKA needs to be taken before__) of Class B. Then how do you plan on taking them in the same semester?

Unless the class is a "prereq or concurrent enrollment required."

DMikes explained it perfectly above. I don't believe programs will care if you take class A and B together, the main problem is if your university will let you take them simultaneously

For some classes, prerequisites are enforced, meaning that their system will prevent you from even registering for a course if you have not satisfied the prerequisites for it. For other classes, prerequisites are advisory, meaning that you can register for a course without having completed them, but you will be doing so at your own risk.

I doubt adcoms will care whether or not you followed the prerequisites for your courses as laid out by your institution, as long as you completed the courses they expect to see.

I asked advisors here if that was allowed, and they said no. However, it looks like I CAN register into both classes, so maybe just like bwc said, it's advised at my school that I take Phys 1 before 2, but if I don't follow that, I just need to know what I am getting myself into.

I thought the same thing, but my the enrollment system allowed me to.

Kind of like enrolling for 1st and 2nd grade concurrently. What's the rush? There is probably a good reason why major universities have prereqs for 1 before letting a student dive into 2.

I went out of order with prereqs in undergrad and got my ass handed to me. 0/10 experience

Rush to save money and time

If you want to, go for it. No one is stopping you if your university allows it. Everyone in here just gave you a warning and advice based on experience. IMO, it isn't worth saving the time and money if you don't do well and have to retake it again, which will actually cost more money and waste more time. Something to think about.

The system may allow it--but that could very well mean it is not capable of determining what you are eligible for. Double check.
