So I am taking organic chemistry this summer and many people have warned me that it is looked down on. My question is have people gotten acceptances who have taken prequisites over the summer.?

Thank you

I took Ochem last summer and wondered the same thing. Some people argue that it is looked down upon because it "may give the impression that you cannot handle a tough schedule". That has to be looked at in perspective though. If you take Ochem over the summer, and get an A; and then take Ochem part II during the regular semester with other courses, and get and A; point proven that you were able to still handle normal semesters. However if you get an A in ochem over the summer, and do not get A's in your other classes during the regular semesters after; then it might be somewhat of a red flag.

I really liked taking it over the summer. I was able to focus solely on it and absorb the information. It moves faster than during the regular semester but it is at a right pace for only having one course. I'd say go for it. 👍

I had always heard that it was looked down on as well, but I wound up taking orgo over the summer a few years ago and had multiple acceptances. Also, a lot of my pre-health friends took orgo or gen chem over the summer and they've all been accepted to med/ dental school. I really don't think they care. Good luck with your class!

Wow boi! Man up n jus take it online like the rest of us intelligent folk

It would look better to have an A in summer orgo rather than a C in fall/spring orgo. Summer classes are NOT looked down upon. I took all my math classes over the summer because I struggled with calc and statistics and some interviewers thought it was a good strategy.

I would think it would be harder to take ochem 1 over the summer because you dont have the time to allow these new ideas to sink in our minds.

It would make it really hard for non-trads to get in otherwise. I'm taking about 16 hours over the next two summers, so I'm going to assume I'm not screwed.

Took orgo II w/lab over the summer, half session course so it was crammed into 4.5 weeks!!!! (compared to 18 weeks in reg semester) Ended up with A- in lecture and A in lab, if that doesn't show someone can handle that stress then idk what would lol.

I was wondering the same thing. I am taking orgo over the summer and people keep telling me that it's looked down on.

dey jus look down cuz dey knew dat dey shoulda don tha same cuz its easier, have fun

poeece!

seriously, please tell me you don't really talk like that...you sound highly uneducated

Adcom likes to see you challenge yourself. Don't take once science pre-req each semester. Do double up for at least a year(bio and chem), (orgo and bio), (orgo and biochem), etc.

As far as summer courses. I don't think it'll look bad to take one class. In regards to the non-trad, your situation is different and adcom will understand. I took a few summer courses myself back in undergrad.
