Present vs Past tense in PS

I've been working on my PS for a week now and I've run in some problems. Normally I try not to switch tenses (present/past) when writing essay. But I'm trying to talk about my transformation (what I DIDN'T know before, and what I DO know now) so there's a lot of switching tenses.

This is the kind of question you take to the (usually free) writing center at your college. They have English majors whom will be able to assist you better than a bunch of pre-dents from SDN
