I can’t seem to find any information re: Amcas question about previous matriculation at a foreign md school. In my home country I matriculated into medical university (not Carib) right out of high school and started taking science courses that are similar to US undergrad pre-reqs (math, bio, physics, chemistry, etc). I never made it to a stage of preclinical/clinical curriculum. I left in a good standing with good grades to immigrate to the US to join my family here. Since then I obtained US bachelors and retook US prereqs. I am also a us citizen now so don’t need a visa. Am I DOA at MD/DO schools because technically I would be considered a previous matriculant? Im sorry if someone has already asked a similar question but I couldn’t find anything similar

What degree program were you enrolled in in that school? Was it MD? MBBS? BCh/MB? Or was it a bachelors program like a BA/BS and you never had one of those degrees on your transcript.

It was a 6 year BCH/MB program that one enrolls into straight out of high school. The first two years are undergrad courses, the last four are medical school but there are no additional steps in between (like an extra application or anything like that).

I do not have any of the degrees above on my transcript and it does not say anywhere that I was specifically pursuing medical degree. My US institution transferred some of the credits I took as they were considered undergraduate and were comparable to level 100 and 200 classes offered by the school.
The only thing that sets these credits apart from any other IB courses is the name of school that includes’Medical University’

I think you would indeed be considered a previous matriculant. The question becomes, are you considered a previous matriculant by
1) AMCAS
2) What schools?

For AMCAS, you will need to look at the applicant guide, which states

Previous Matriculation If you’ve previously officially enrolled and attended classes as a candidate for a medical school degree (MD) regardless of country, you are considered a previous matriculant. You’ll need to answer either Yes or No. If you select Yes, you’ll have 1,325 characters to briefly explain your previous matriculation. You must include the name of the school to which you previously matriculated, the degree you sought, and why you are reapplying to medical school at this time.

By this definition, perhaps not. They specify MD as the degree they are talking about, not DO or MBBS etc. If you decide to click yes, you would have room to explain it.

For individual schools, each will have their own rules regarding previous matriculants and you would need to consider their admissions websites. My school, for instances, specifically states they will not take applicants from any medical program, including 6-year international programs.

Best of luck!

Thank you for an honest response. Just so I can get an idea, do you mind sharing if you are at a state/private school? My only hope was that private md and do schools would be more open to someone like me
