I'm applying to med schools this year and starting to think about what fields I might be interested in pursuing later. Are gynecology and geriatrics generally considered to be primary care fields? 🙄

Thanks! 🙂

OB/GYN is a sort of an "in between" field. One can become a practicing community obstetrician/gynecologist and do primary care. One can also do subspecialty training in, say, gyn-oncology and end up in a distinctly non-primary care practice.

Geriatrics smacks more of primary care, but I'm guessing there are a variety of practice options available. It's not a very popular field (something unappealing about watching old folks go down the tubes), so you can basically write your own ticket if you're into it.
