Hi all. Have you found that you need a printer in med school? Color or B&W? All in one or just printer function?
Or, does your school allow you to print or do you just look at docs on screen?
Recommendations welcomed.

I would recommended a basic black and white laser printer. Brother has several good models on Amazon ranging from $80-300 depending upon the features you want. No matter what, though, I would recommend a laser printer because of the amount of printing you're likely to do and how much cheaper in the aggregate they are over inkjets.

for the first 2 years, any printing I needed to do I could do at school. it wasn't much, as most of my materials were online or in a syllabus and I didn't print stuff unless I absolutely had do. so I didn't really NEED one for the first 2 years

third and fourth year I did a lot of printing, scanning, and faxing for setting up away rotations, filling out residency hire packets, etc. If you could swing it and feel like it, an all-in-one might be a worthwhile investment. you can get in to them for ~$100

I never had a printer in med school but we were allowed to print as much as we wanted at the library. I realize this isn't the case at the majority of schools. Most of your materials will be online but looking back it would have been nice to at least have one of those cheapo all-in-ones. I got one at Target for $60 last week, probably could have done even better online.

This is the one I have. Very compact, prints quickly, and is reliable. My favorite feature is the duplex (printing on both sides).

Got it a few holiday seasons ago for 60.

+1111111 HL2270 DW is what I picked up almost two years ago, 8000 pages later and $50 for toner till date. One of the BEST investments I ever made. No way I'm paying $.10 a sheet. The organic lab reports really added up.

BTW if you catch it on sale, you can pick it up for $69.00 on amazon.

Wow, I never knew laser printers were so cheap nowadays! Thank you, SDN!

Haha, I know right? And here I've been buying masses of ink cartridges throughout the years under the assumption that its the only reasonable option. I guess I'm one of the suckers keeping them in business.

Also check out the generic toners, you can get a high yield toner for $15! its lasted me a year so far.
