not true at all. We'll still be posting on here. I think the private forum will be used for things that are more 'for physician provider's eyes' only.Sammich81 said:Hey- does this mean jet and toughlife and you are no longer going to be posting in the general forum? That would be sad.

There have been NUMEROUS members who are being invited as we speak. If by the end of today you have not been invited...leave a message on this thread. In order to gain membership you will have to meet the criteria below
Again, membership to the private forum will require two things:
1) You are or will be a physician provider
2) You are a member of the ASA
3) Be recommended as being 'trustworthy' by atleast two current members of the private forum
we have a pretty good system in place to check credentials 👍

The only strength of this web site is that anyone can post -no fees, no credentials, - *****ic banter about md's vs crnas, do's vs md's, etc - med student applicatns looking for information and oppinions, as well as the real anesthesiologists (jet, ut, milmd, etc, etc) posting about stuff I can't even pretend to understand all on the same day, all on the same forum. Just my oppinion.

In order to maintain the 'confidence' of the group, again the three things we ask are
1)only physician providers/to be physicians
2)ASA membership
3)been around here long enough so that you can be referred to by atleast 2 current private forum members.
This whole thing has been tricky, adn my eyes are killing me from helping the moderators get this thing together. So please, dont take it personal if you are a physician/to be physician and havent gotten an invite and YOU wanted one and met above criteria. Fatigue is just killing my eyes.
Thanks

I'm interested in posting in an effort to help everyone, and benefit myself by learning from everyone.
JWK, Trin et al are benefits to the anesthesia realm. I benefit from their input. And they wont have access to The Ring.
Not so sure we're accomplishing a whole lot by restricting access.
The better thing to do would be to have a more aggressive SWAT TROLL TEAM.

I hear you loud and clear. Our intentions are benevolent to say the least. You and I have been on here for quite some time. We both know that trolls infiltrate, and mods are very busy to 'swat away' quickly. Then, it's usually one of us that intervenes and calls these guys out and then the threads start going SOUTH faaaaaaaaaaast (we get the cursing, and derogatory name calling,etc...and believe me I know i'm guilty of some of that too).
When screening guys that have PM'd about the private forum, the moderator, has already found 3 'made up names' that are attributed to the 'former' nitecap. The CRNAs et al, have forums that are password protected, which contain 'sensitive' forum for which we can not see, why shouldnt we?
Also, the reason that we are trying to restrict use to only physicians/and future physicians is because there are some serious matters that have and can arise that are meant to be ONLY for the eyes of docs. If for example we had wanted some political piece of legislature pushed forward that would benefit the interests of anesthesiologists it would be desirable for it to be 'private' atleast in the beginning stages. How else can doctors talk to each other w/o feeling like others will 'look down' upon them if they say something?
As for Jwk, and trin...yes I agree they are important. However, that's why this forum is still there for their use and most of us are going to be on both forums anyways.
You youself stated that SDN provides a great wealth of knowledge that you wish you had as medical student. Hey, I agree with that 100%. So, I think just having an ASA membership, which is pretty much all that you need for this private forum, is not asking for too much in exchange. It is essentially the ONLY way to VERIFY who someone says they are. There is soo much to gain from this forum! Plus, having an ASA membership is something that's soo vital for our profession anyways, because they are there to 'protect our interests'.
Also, to all you med students out there, an ASA membership is such a great thing to have. It looks great on applications, they give you a newsletter almost monthly, and the free MONTHLY journal "Anesthesiology". How else to really get to know what Anesthesiology is about? It's a win-win situation for everyone.
sorry for the long post. No matter what the hx anyone of us had with each other on this forum, I have not excluded ANYONE who has asked/PMd from getting an invitation. I just don't want to go around hving moderators 'solicit' for the private forum.
We all have differences of opinion, but our goal is one...providing SAFE anesthesia and providing the BEST possible care to our patients.
I respectfully urge that you take this into consideration and atleast give it a shot 👍

SleepIsGood said:Just a side note.
The Anesthesiology Private Forum is a pilot program for SDN. The trend is to have SDN forums that are private AND those that are public. It appears that there is a general consensus across all the medical boards that a 'private' forum, which is only for physicians is necessary. While midlevels may be important, some information is 'sensitive'.
We hope you all understand.

I wouldn't dare suggest that a lurking SRNA such as myself should be privy to you and toughlife's strategery concerning the threat of another competent provider in this overburdened system. I'm surprised there wasn't a private forum for anesthesiology in cyberspace already. But are you not listening to the sages amongst us on this forum, who continually echo the sentiment that most CRNAs aren't after your mojo? I'm just trying to understand the inspiration for this campaign of yours. No really, as a non-militant future ACT-dedicated CRNA, I'm asking: where is this coming from?
suggestion: Dont try reading between the lines 👍Cap'nOblivious said:Are you including the nurses in this blanket statement, thereby conceding that all this recent muscle flexing is peripheral to excellent patient care?
