The ones I am familiar with created a call group. The doc on call would just come to the hospital and spend the whole night there and take care of the patients. It works out for them in that they have a 1 in 8 call and alot of them have the freedom to switch or get coverage for vacation and so forth. I don't however know the financial aspects of this set up.
The one's that I know take their own call, unless they are on vacation. Their patients love them because the doc they see in the office is the one that delivers.
I, on the other hand am not going to do that. They are too busy- I've got to have my free time.
One ob doc I know works in a group of 8. They are mostly q7 or q8. They seem to be very happy with it that way. I think they alternate weekends a little different. The only problem is when you are on you are busy carrying 8 docs worth of patients. I can deal with 4 calls a month.
