Hey guys,
Wanted to know what mph programs will take an mcat, and where I might get in with a 4.0 517. Pretty much only if the mph program is one-year. Thanks for the help.

With those stats you don't need an additional degree unless you're into global/public health. Also 1 or 2 yrs off isn't gonna make you any less competitive. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Just because you didn't get in on EDP doesn't mean you aren't competitive. You made some strategic errors but with your stats you should be fine when you apply early and broadly next cycle. MPHs usually don't add much to an application. Only do one if you really want to and if it will enhance your career goals.

1. A lot of medical students have mentioned that if you do masters during residency, it might get paid for
2. Getting a degree just for the sake of spending time wisely needs to be evaluated. Even if your parents are rich think abt this. A lot of rich ppl like to save money, even more so than those without finances. No debt before medicine is highly preferred.
3. Try to check out fellowships in research and teaching. If you are stuck, pm me and I'll give you a list to start with.
4. As Goro said mph is not really rigorous. Places like Georgetown charge near 60k for just 1 year! Seriously man, it's not worth it.

PM me for more info, I'm doing a 1 year MPH right now. I'm not necessarily going into global health but I really like what I'm learning. At the very least I think it will give me perspective and knowledge that will make me a better doctor, at most it opens doors into health policy, administration, and public health research. Sure, it's not difficult nor will it really boost your application but nonetheless its a terminal degree you will always have with you the rest of your life. May be a pro during residency placement
