Has anybody also experienced the following, like me?
I received a request to schedule a telephone interview last month, so I scheduled it for Oct. 4. But, just now, I got in snail mail a rejection letter from Mayo, saying that my application will no longer be considered... So, did I just get rejected before I could do my requested interview, or do you think it was a mistake?

I have no idea if it is a mistake, but that really stinks if it isn't one! 🙁

i'd call them, that does seem strange but i'd say it seems like a miscommunication between two people/offices there.

do you mind posting your stats?

That would suck if the rejection letter supersedes your request for a phone interview. You should check to see if they might have mentioned this in the letter/e-mail requesting you to schedule a phone interview.

similar issue ... i got an email for an onsite interview, then another email saying that the first was in error and id hear from them soon, then got a snail mail rejection... they are really really nice people in the office, but thats not such a great mistake to make! i wasnt so happy bout that...

Oh my, that really sucks... What a terrible mistake for an admissions office to make!

wow, that is really irresponsible of them.

And the sad thing would be if they felt bad and interviewed you just to make you feel better (and make themselves look better) but were really not interested... i guess that would be ok for the phone deal but i it would be WRONG for them to have a person fly out if they were not really considering them so it's better to know ahead of time even though the method of rejection is worse than the standard way. Still stinks! Sorry for both of you! 😕

Ouch. My friend had something similar with Northwestern. By snail mail, she got an interview invite, and right before she called them to schedule it, she realized that the name in the letter wasn't hers. On the envelope, it was her name and address, but not in the letter. She had to call and straighten it out - she actually got rejected there pre-interview - I felt so bad for her.

To the original poster, hopefully, they had a mix-up and meant to send the letter to someone else. When they scheduled the phone interview, they should have known whether there was an error or not, so I think there's a good chance that they made a mistake sending you that letter. Though I know you'll probably do this anyway, call them first thing tomorrow morning and get it straightened out. Keep us posted and good luck!
