I found many threads talking about Ortho, Endo, Perio, why no Prosth?
I just applied for 3 prosth program in UIC, U Rochester, and UI. The main factor I consider is the tuition fee, am I right? Cuz I am kind of poor.

same though applied to 9 programs..and am not Kinda but really poor :D

i would goto a VA program. as they pay very well and you don't really have too much lab work. also you get alot of training in surgery.

hiya doc i've a ques if u kindly answer it.... is there any paid residency prog in prostho at uic for international dentists?? if yes then wht is the procedure for applying for it?? kindly reply if u have any kind of useful information regarding it ....thx

I agree with toothmastr.
Look for programs that have a strong Implant surgery and/or Implant/Restoration component.

There are perio/prosth programs out there that can be completed in 3 yrs (the same amt of time as would regular prosth) such as U Washington. I know this cause Frank Spear is from there and he is a Dental Demi God in the real world.

IMO implants belong to the everyone in the dental community not to any particular specialty such as perio or OS. Heck even Endos are doing implants now.:scared:

yes there is pros program there at UIC but expensive :-( and for a ftd on a loan alrdy for DDS its difficult choices here. I didnt really looked into periodontal prosthesis programs for that word perio makes me go dizzy :scared:

unless you want to be stuck doing 50% complete dentures (which is a thing of the past and a waste of time), Gosh I hate dentures!!!, in your program then u may have to bite the bullet and get more loan.

I love dentures be it complete or partial......... as long as i am the dentist :)

Anyhow any calls? I now Seattle is out.

...complete dentures (which is a thing of the past and a waste of time)...

I could not disagree more.

While dentures are somewhat archaic and not sexy compared to fixed ceramo-metal restorations, denture therapy will have a significant place in any general dental or prosthodontic practice. Denture fabrication, treatment planning, and impression technique have a critical role in implant restoration.

It's not even a function of finances many times, what do you do if a patient has a severely resorbed anterior maxilla, high lip line, loss of facial & lip competence?

Sure you can prescribe fixed ceramo-metal restorations but what will you say when the patient says they don't like the look of how the pink porcelain and their own gingiva comes together? Maybe they don't like crowns that are 20mm in height? What are you going to do?

Everything else requires some sort of denture to transition to restoration. Hybrid prosthesis? Denture teeth are used and requires interim denture for diagnostic steps. Spark-erosion prosthesis... yup, denture. Nobel all-on-four prosthesis? yup, denture.

Overdentures are great, especially with 4 implants and removing a palate, but what's wrong with a maxillary CD w/o implants? Patients can get very comfortable with them and are very predictable. Maxillary CD or overdentures are excellent restorations of choice with the aformentioned patient.

Mandibular dentures, however, are terrible by themselves without retention... if your comment was directed to this type of prosthesis, maybe I could buy your statement.

Well explained. Complete Dentures has its place. I guess it is just my personal dislike for making dentures. But you're right, we need more dentists or prosthodontists who are competent in making great dentures as opposed to delegating them to Denturists.
If Dentures are your Forte then go for it!:p:thumbup:

I love you for this

I truly believe dentures have there special place and as a poor edentulous guy this. Give him one good prosthesis and his and ur life is worthwhile. :)

Hahaha... you guys are a riot!

I actually do enjoy doing both implant-supported dentures and conventional dentures and I will enjoy even more when I am charging a specialist fee for them when I get out of school!

I am also applying for U of Rochester, Prosthodontics program. My application "landed" on the due date, September 1, and today I got invitation for interview.. Is there anyone has the same thing ? I want to ask what to expect in this interview... what do they really want to find out from the candidates to choose them from ?

If anyone has any questions about the residency with the VA in Wash DC I can try and answer them. I'm currently a T-1 resident at the Navy program in Bethesda. The VA residents spend most of their first year at our program and and some of their 2nd and 3rd year, mostly for the didactic classes. Best of luck to everyone applying.

We go up to their program on average once a month for guest lectures, we were just there Friday. They seem to have a strong program and nice facilities. Our faculty are pretty close with their director, who also happens to be a board examiner.

Hey friends,
I have applied for prostho programs in US for the year 2010. Many of u also hv applied for the same program. And they all would be in stress like me. lets share about our interviews experience and any acceptances into prostho. program.

I will start with mine. I got interviews from Tufts uni. and Marquette uni.

I applied to IOWA, Lousiana, so far not heard from them. Has anybody heard from them?

Hey Ndbe , how was your interviews? what did they ask? what they look for?
hope you did well
best to u

Of course that's what it means, it's an evil plot and it couldn't possibly be that they were the best candidates now could it?
