Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if schools all send some kind of information as to whether you're rejected or on hold or whatever, or if some of them do the whole silent rejection type thing?

I haven't heard from most of the schools I applied to.

Thanks for the answers in advance!

Also, when was your primary complete with AACOMAS? When you say you havent heard from schools, do you mean no secondaries? Or no interviews? Or no acceptances?

Please clarify🙂

Oh I apologize. I actually came across your other thread a little after I posted this question. I have filled out secondaries, I just haven't heard anything since regarding their decisions after reviewing my application. I sent primary out in June, but my updated MCAT score wasn't sent until October, so that's probably why I haven't heard much.

It would just be nice to know a little...

I applied to 44 schools, heard back from 26 accept/reject/interview/withdrew after hearing, and I heard back from 2 reminding me I'm still under consideration. I was complete in mid July. I think it is ridiculous that 40% the schools haven't taken the time to send a reminder that I'm still under consideration, or not, including a few schools without online status checkers. It's very unprofessional and how hard is it to make an email list and send out a monthly reminder or some confirmation. All we as future students can do is assume our file is being looked at. Plus, it's a huge disservice to students as now is the time we should start planning for next year in case of no acceptances, yet it's hard to commit to certain things (masters, smp, a job, etc.) if you may have to pull out last minute.

I think most schools will wait to review your app until planned MCAT scores are reported. This probably varies from school to school, but my guess is that your app didn't enter the review pool until October / November and it often takes a month or two between review and interview invites. Perhaps even longer during the height of application volume, which is September / October.

It's okay to email schools to ask if your app is under review, just don't expect them to always get back to you. Some schools get back to you immediately if you ask, but usually with some variation of "Yes, your app is under review and we'll be in touch, k bye."

I understand completely where you guys are coming from. I feel like this application process is tough enough on us, the least these schools could do is maintain some semblance of communication. I'm still waiting to hear from 13 schools, and nervously checking every email/phone call/mail delivery is starting to get old. Come on schools, most of us have been working towards this point for years. Throw us a bone.

Yeah I know what you guys mean. I applied to 13 school and 6 of them still haven't gotten back to me. Touro-CA was nice enough to send out emails occasionally thanking me for my patience haha. I'm really hoping I hear back from those schools before I have to make my decision.

I totally agree with you guys that as an APPLICANT is sucks that schools take so long. BUT think of it from their end. They get THOUSANDS of applicants. To do an adequate job, i want them to take their time. Dont you? Isnt it better to know they are taking their time to read your application in detail as opposed to just look and go "Meh average GPA, low MCAT, ok ECs.....they are cut". Instead they are going "average GPA, lets look at trends....low MCAT...well what sections? Average ECS, ok well what type of ECs and experience did they get from each one" Than after detailed looking at an applicant, they compare in detail

I dunno this is the analogy i have come up with. I think its not only more positive to think this way, its also likely more accurate than assuming they are ignoring you.

BTW to give my personal story: I applied to like 10 schools, got 3 rejections (CCOM, DMU, LECOM-B) put on hold at 3 (KCOM, AZCOM, VCOM), 2 interviews (Touro-NY, Western), 1 acceptance so far (Touro)....and havent heard back from PCOMs. All my news took SUPER long, at least a month. So hold tight guys and dont give up hope because they are taking their time🙂

Twocents, I pretty much applied with the same timeline as you with my last MCAT score arriving in October and have been on four interviews with three acceptances, a couple of holds, and now an invite to KCOM. IF I were you I would at least e-mail to see where you are in the process, it can't hurt and may move you to the top of the "pile". Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I am going to send out some emails. I just thought I would hear something back soon. I'm not the greatest and smartest candidate, but I figured with a 3.58 cGPA and 28 on the MCAT (10/10/8) that there would be some answers.
