Hey fellas!

So I start my first third year rotation, psych,in a week's time and am looking around for a few pointers from some seasoned folks here.I started with updating my recall by reading through the psych and behavioral science sections from FA Step 1.Next,I'll be skimming through BRS Psychiatry and try to complete this before I begin.

What books are must-haves? I hear Maxwell's is holy grail, would this suffice of is there anything else I should wield just before I start rotations? Any books for psych rotation in particular?

Any tips on how I can shine on this rotation will be great! I just start third year and am brimming with unbridled enthusiasm...and a bit of trepidation as well:scared: Thanks!

Show up on time, show interest, do your readings and be helpful.

First aid for psych clerkship. then read first aid for psych clerkship. If your school makes you take the shelf, then do either the lange or pretest questions, or both ... psych really shouldn't be a hard rotation for ya

Be enthusiastic, nice, and not judgmental. So many students think psych is a joke, and they blow it off or act better than everyone. So if you act genuinely interested, are pleasant and helpful, and are respectful and nice to patients, you should be fine. If it's really important to you to get honors, ask for feedback a couple weeks in to see if you're on the right track and need to adjust anything.

Learn to write the most verbose notes ever. Nothing less than a full page is ever acceptable.

Agreed 110%.

These are the only books I used. The FA for Psych is a pretty easy read and just enough info for the shelf. I supplemented with Pretest, did pretty well on the shelf.

Good luck 👍
