with the high rate of divorce in the united states, are there alot of psychiatrists who practice marital therapy full time? or do psychologists do this work mostly?

is it hard or unheard of to practice marital therapy full time as a psychiatrist? do you need to be in a major city (i.e. NYC, LA, Chicago, etc) to be able to do this?

any insight would be appreciated. thanks.

I'm sure you could, but why the hell would you want to?
😉

Here, read this.

The APA created the caucus of family/systems psychiatrists, according to the above, some years ago. They probably have more information.

Couple's Tx can actually be really fun. The sessions are never, ever boring (depending on the pt, individual tx can "drag" at times). That citation is a little flawed in that it cites the goal of couple's tx as a happy marriage. All of my couple's supervisors have always made the point that your goal as the therapist is NOT to "save the relationship", but to help each party clarify and make the best decision for themselves - which might include not remaining in the couple.
