Hey!

I have a PT aide job interview at a local clinic on Wednesday, I have only ever had 2 jobs that required an interview and this will also be the first time working in the field. Any suggestions for the interview in general or particularly for a PT Aide position? I REALLY want this job it is perfect so I dont want to screw up, and it has been a few years since I last went on an interview, so I am little nervous.

Thanks so much!

I'm a PT aide at my hospital. It's such a great opportunity, good luck!

Follow all the basic interview techniches: watch what you wear, be professional, etc.

The biggest thing about what landed me the job was my passion for healthcare. (I also had previous work in the hospital.)

Would Khakis and polo work or should I wear black plants you think??

Why not khakis and a shirt and tie? That way they'll know its you. Youll stand out 😉

But definitely bring up "teamwork" a lot. I'm a PT aide and thats all they ever talk about. No one is above another in my clinic (or so they say 😉 ).

I'm working as an aide in Manhattan and there were a few things that helped me get the position. My boss told me that he received hundreds of applications and that he narrowed it down to his two favorite people. I have been told since that the difference between me and the other person was my personality. Be outgoing and make sure that you greet everyone that works there! Introduce yourself to everyone from the front desk to the therapists. When you're leaving, acknowledge everyone and tell them it was great meeting them to leave a lasting impression. I wore a suit to my interview and it definitely made me memorable. Even if its just an Aide position, wearing a suit shows professionalism. And besides, who doesn't look good in a suit?!? Hope this helps! good luck!

I would agree with everything tng2 said. If you are a woman, a pant suit would be a good alternative to a male suit and tie.

I would also encourage you to be discerning. Pay attention to how the clinicians act, how they treat the current tech, and the general vibe of the clinic. It's a two-way street and you want to put yourself in a good situation, as there are other tech opportunities to be had.

When making my career change, I left a well-paying professional job for a tech position so that I could go to community college full-time. The first clinic I worked in was ruled over by a bipolar dictator of a PT. And her charisma, and my eagerness to acquire a tech position distracted me from the dysfunctional workplace.

Don't let me be a Debby Downer; just wanted to throw a different angle in your thinking. Good luck on the interview!

If you are
1. Good with people
2. take direction well
3. a good multi tasker
4. willing to learn anything and everything about PT
5. someone who takes initiative
6. can work with patients as well as do some administrative stuff (answer phones, schedule people, filing, etc).

you should be good. Be genuine in your interview. If you really want to be a PT, then it will show in what you say and how you say it. Also, I wore a shirt and tie and some slacks. I always liked the saying, "Dress for the job you want, not the one you have."

Thanks so much everyone!! The interview went really well -- I'll hear back in a few weeks. 🙂 I really hope I get it!

If I were going to do this, would I need some sort of certification or can I do it even though I am an undergraduate student?

Hey! I'm Junior undergrad PT Aide/PT Tech doesnt need any certification. Good way to get hours and get paid is how I see it.. So I am hoping all goes well and I get the job 🙂

Hope this helped!
