how about class?

Well, for the large classes yes, e.g. Benzodiazepines, cholesterol, antibiotics, blood thinners, blood pressure (lol) <-- easy way to remember, uh... any analgesics, inhalers, you know... just the typical.. but not necessarily the uses.... because there are multiple uses for everything! I just learned today that Buproprion is typically used for depression, but is also used to help people quit smoking! I was amazed! So it would be pretty much useless and impossible to remember all of those.

I'm thinking about taking the PCTB. It looks pretty straightforward from the pharmtech.org site, three major areas of study: assisting pharmacist practice, medication/inventory, and management of pharmacy practice.

Anyone taken the test? How many weeks should I dedicate to pass it?

Few days. Don't need to memorize top 200

Yeah you really don't need to memorize the top 200! I was freaking out about the test, because it seemed like there was SO MUCH that needed to be memorized, but I basically went in not really knowing anything besides how to do the math part, and I passed. I think the passing threshold for the test is really low... so I'm sure it's very rare that someone fails.

However, if you memorize all the top drugs, you will be super prepared for your first tech job. I just started as a pharm tech, and it's definitely challenging not knowing the top 200, C2 drugs, refridgerated drugs, etc.

You don't have to know top 200. PTCB = easy. I didn't study and I passed. Btw, CAAtexas, what school you going to? Congratz BTW! All 4 schools, very impressive!

Already talked to you through messaging but yes you should at least have a general idea of the top 200 drugs as far as generic to brand name and vice versa as well as schedules, classes, and storage.

Most of it is math I agree with that but you still need to know a good amount so you can be comfortable taking it and not completely guessing.

I was looking at the top 200 drugs and wanted to memorize them by class/function so I could just group the drugs together. For a question regarding drugs, do they just ask you, "what is this" or is it more specific?

Does anyone know what is passing score for PTCB exam? What percentage of questions should you answer correct to get it?
