My PTCB cert is about to expire, but is it necessary to get recertified if I'm starting pharm school this fall? I have my CA pharm tech license, and I'll have to obtain my intern license once I start school. Do you think it's necessary to carry the PTCB certification still? And would that affect employment possibilities if I were to choose to work as well? Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't think so. My certification is set to expire... well, probably any day now, now that I think about it, and I have no plans to renew. I'd say your intern license would convey any level of competency or requirement that a CPhT cert would.

You may not be able to renew your state license if you don't keep up on your CE. In Texas they have the same CE requirements as PTCB.

Yes, but college-level math and science courses count towards most of your CE credits.

My PTCB is set to expire this year as well, and I'm currently waiting on acceptance to pharmacy school (Interviewed, waiting for a reply :xf: )

My understanding is that you can't apply to become an intern until your P2 year.

Reeeeally. Is there a place in the PTCB CE section where you can enter this? Might save me a boatload of trouble in renewing also.

Yeah, just enter it like any other CE. I believe there is a limit, something like 15 or 20 CE credits total. Check the PTCB site, they should have the specific rules listed there.

let it expire, your intern license in CA would supersede it (higher pay, ability to do more). other states: consult with someone else whether you should let it lapse, usually the answer is yes.

I'm in Texas, and I definitely let mine lapse since our intern license lets us perform tech duties. Read up on your Board of Pharmacy's website about intern licenses in your state. As far as affecting employment opportunities, that's a big nope. Employers might like that you were previously a tech, but they won't penalize you for not paying money to keep a certification you don't need.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! So I'm assuming that a tech license is also unnecessary, correct?
