Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if taking public speaking or interpersonal communication online is ok? (like will not be viewed negatively?)

So my school does not let students take public speaking or interpersonal communication class unless you are a communication major. (this is so stupid.) Alternative will be taking one of these classes at community college which is pretty far from where I am living. I would really like to take this class online but I know schools like Colorado does not take public speaking online class. So I am leaning towards just taking it in community college in class....

sighh any advice?

Every school is different so I would contact each school you plan on applying to, but through my own research most (if not all) do not take online Speech courses.

Plus, do not limit yourself by taking an online Speech class if that shuts the door to some schools you'd like to apply to. Go ahead and take it at the community college. Make it work!

Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the advice kind sir. I will be taking this class at community college. It is just I am really frustrated that I cannot take this class when it is even open and I have a perfect time slot that fits my schedule. :[

and not only that this situation is just all very very stupid...sigh

There is no override you can get due to it being required for your program? I would go to the dean or provost or whoever and get them to approve it. At any rate, best of luck to you! :luck:

I actually took public speaking as an online course. For each assignment, we had to videotape ourselves giving a speech in front of at least 15 people. So basically once a week I offered up beer and pizza, and suddenly I had fifteen friends sitting in my living room.

My transcript doesn't indicate, in any way, that the class was taken online. If the school offering the course for you is the same way, then I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

And we didn't discuss my speech class during my interviews. At all.
