If your would-be fellowship director resigns and there is no one slated to take his place, is that justification for pulling out of a fellowship 3.5 months before it starts? So far I've only signed a letter of intent, not a contract. I'm concerned that this fellowship is no longer a good opportunity for me and might in fact be downright miserable. Thanks for the input.

Of course that is justification for pulling out of the fellowship. The only better reason I could think of would be if the fellowship lost it's ACGME-accredited status (which it might if it loses it's fellowship director!).
