So I'm in this Biology class that I wasn't doing too hot in at the beginning. I got about 2 points lower than the average on most quizzes, but I finally started doing crazy things in order to do well (Googling everything/re-listening to lectures/re-reading/etc.).

But now I realize I can't get anywhere in the B+ to A range unless I ace every quiz (and final) from now. Is there anything else I should do? Should I attend office hours just to "kiss ass" even though I figure out things on my own?

Pucker up those lips...
You'll be fine, just talk to your professor and find out what you can improve.

Keep doing what you're doing, don't go to office hours without a genuine question, office hours would be pointless if you ask obvious questions.

So the answer is, ace every quiz and the final. Kissing ass sometimes works but don't bank on it.

Should I do both? Especially since if I continue at the this rate, I will be borderline (w/ acing every quiz/final).

Kissing ass isn't going to raise your grade, and might actually lower it. Try knowing and understanding the material.

Your school must have a learning center. Go check it out.

Oh, and one B isn't going to terminate your medical career, so quit fussing.

One B won't, actually is an improvement. My freshman year grades will... /:

Just keep studying like crazy. Going to office hours and getting to know the TA who is ultimately entering your grade in the gradebook wouldn't hurt. As long as you seem like you're genuinely trying to do better and get the best grade you can get and you're not just being a grade-grubbing kiss-ass, the TA will look favorably on this.

OP don't ever stoop down to sucking up to your peers. It show's to them that your lazy and don't want to put in the real hard work to attain the results. It also show's to them that you have no value of your own diginity. Any man (women?) has one thing in this world that they should always keep at the highest standard, your diginity.

So tl;dr

Pre read
Go to class and actively listen (try to connect the missing pieces from your pre reading)
Use anki or some space repetition software to input facts that you will tend to forget
Keep reading 1-2hours a day to stay current with the material
Go to your publishers website and see if they offer practice quizzes/flashcards/test banks (take those as well, but only after you have mastered the material)
Repeat.
If you have some kind of ADD, take some caffeine/L-theine supplements (1:1 ratio) or hit the big boys and go with adderoll/modafinil

With this process, you don't have to stoop down to sucking anyone's ass.

A B won't kill your application. For sure. And an A is definitely possible even if you have to ace EVERYTHING. I wasn't doing too hot in Organic Chem and halfway through the semester I finally realized I had to step it up (too late if you ask me) so I asked my TA what I should do and she told me the same thing. I needed to ace everything and kill the final. And guess what, I did! It's doable. Just for the remainder of this class, find out how many hours you have to devote to studying and rock every quiz. If you just remember that a 100 is possible and be confident that what you studied will be tested on, you'll do good.

Don't kiss butt. 😛

Thank you so much, I will kill everything from now on. 🙂
