I am a med student. I've recently read some case studies about patients with pulsatile tinnitus. The differential diagnosis for this condition seems pretty extensive, including tumors, AVMs, aneurysms, and intercranial hypertension. It seems the standard protocol is to prescribe MRIs and other imaging to patients who present with pulsatile tinnitus.
This kind of freaked me out because I myself have had pulsatile tinnitus for the last few years. I went to an ENT years ago who just told me I would have to live with it. He never performed any tests, and I kind of feel like I'm in urgent need of an MRI. I hear it a lot now that I'm focusing on it, and I'm having a hard time focusing on school. Is this really serious, or are catastrophic problems from this pretty rare? Thanks!
