purpose of adding parent info on fafsa?

Omg I totally agree! I'm 26 and been on my own since 17.. I was so mad that I had to do that!
 
I think it's required for data collection or something like that.
 
Parent info can qualify you for certain types of scholarships/loans. I know at NECO, parent info isn't needed, but if you put it in, they can consider your parents' financial standing and find loans and financial aid to help you. I don't think you're at a disadvantage without parent info but if your parents' are low income, it can help.
 
Well what if your parents are well off but you're not lol. I'm screwed.
