Medical Pursuing an MD after MPH?

I am in the first year of an MPH program. I was pre-med through all of undergrad and made the switch to public health after realizing that I was passionate about addressing upstream determinants causing preventable health conditions. My plan was to take a 'gap year' to do an MPH and then complete an MD under the assumption that I would need a doctorate to have full upward mobility in a career sense in public health. Now, I'm questioning whether medical school is something I really want to do - I don't necessarily want to practice. Thoughts?

Public Health is a fine career.
The value of an MD in that arena is the voice that an experienced clinician can provide.
If you don't intend to practice, the relative value of the degree is marginal.
