He actually says 115 to 140k, which is right in-line with what is said in other posts about starting salary.
The salaries in path are greatly influenced by the individual practice. Partners in some practices don't make a ton of money, in others they make 300+. Reckoning is speaking about an individual practice in a specific area, there is a great deal of variation from practice to practice and from area to area. Also, it may be that the younger pathologists of the group are not partners in the practice. They may be in the partnership track with not enough years or just outright employees with no partnership track. There are areas of the country that so many people want to live that it drives down the salaries of the junior folks too. The Wash D.C. area is like that now, one of our previous graduates wanted to work up there and could not find a decent offer. So he went to Colorado and is doing right well.
There are 4 pathologists leaving my program this year that are going to work and not continuing education.
1 went academics with a starting salary in the above range.
2 went private practice, one only part-time 4 days a week and still making in the high end of the above range, the other also cytopath trained is starting significantly higher than 140k. Both of these will be partner in 3 years with salaries over 250k in 3 years.
1 went to goverment service with a salary that is significantly lower than the above.
Pathologist in private practice make more money than FP or general IM for the most part. Though, I am sure there are some outstanding practices of both that do right well. A FP doc in my hometown converted her practice to a walk-in cash or charge at time of service clinic and is rolling in the dough.
