when mailing in our transcripts & supplemental stuff, should we include some sort of informal letter, saying "to whom this may inform, i am first/last name and my VMCAS ID is #####" and add our e-mail and phone number just in case??

I never did that last year and I didn't do it this year. Transcripts typically have to be mailed directly by your school, so you don't actually ever get to see them and can't put a letter with it. And I think most schools have supplemental applications that are submitted online and don't require any sort of excess information.

I have sent transcripts, GRE, and supplementals sans explanatory letter. I wouldn't sweat it.
