A number: x
Is larger than 5 by: (x-5)
The same amount: (x-5) =
That it is smaller than: (x-5) = (? - x) <-- why does x go second? Because it is SMALLER than something.
3 more than 14: (x-5) = ( [3+14] - x)
It's an average. So 3 greater then 14 = 17 + 5 (its the number right between 17 and 5) = 22. Then divide by 2 since your averaging 2 numbers and you get 11.
