Any helpful tips on how to solve dice/coin rolling/flipping questions if the possibilities are too long to draw out?

It is easy to find the probability say 3 coins with the outcome of one tail and two heads, but what if it were 12 coins, outcome of 4 heads and 8 tails? Is there a faster way to solve this problem? (Also without using the actual combination formula if possible....)

If the question specifies the order (ie the first 4 are tails and the last 8 are heads) then it's easy : (1/2)^12. But if the question doesn't specify the order then you have to use the combination formula: 12C4 *(1/2)^4*(1/2)^8
