Hi,

I've started self-studying the behavioral and biochemistry components of the MCAT2015 in addition to weekly practice verbal passages. I have noticed that this has been taking a considerable amount of time and effort that detracts from classes.

I'm currently enrolled in 18 (quarter units) 5 from a writing course, 4 from orgo II, 4 from a "directed research course" and 5 from a sociology class. The grading distributions for the soc. class are pretty high but it's a lot of work and so far has been annoying. I have the option of making it pass-fail or dropping the course completely by next week. 12 units is considered a full-time student but since 4 of my units are from a research course would adcoms look down upon me for taking just 3 if I drop soc? I can drop without getting a W.

I will still have to take it in the future as a GE so I'm only going to be delaying it until after my MCAT.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I don't think they care about your 4-credit research. They might care if you have "W" in your transcript. Having couple of W in your transcript is something to worry about. Limiting your college education to satisfy some imaginary adcom is nonsense.

A couple of W's is nothing to worry about.

Sorry - I didn't specify that I can drop safely without getting a W!

If you feel like it's too much then, by all means, drop the course. Do well in the remaining courses and ace sociology when you re-take it in the future. If you can drop it without a W, even better.

My only concern was if my course-rigor would look too light if I did. what do you think?

If this is the case, drop the class and save yourself the trouble.

Since you can drop it without W, it means you are in the first week and can still add classes? If so drop it and add "fluff" class that do not require extensive work.

Also, you can just take it easy this quarter and do EC with your free time. Really, just do what you want, as long as you avoid Grade of C or F

Unfortunately too late to add classes!

You'd still be taking 13 units which is more than full-time. You're fine. Even if you were just taking 12 units that would be fine. This isn't something to be concerned about. Like I tell everyone else, chill.
